CHICAGO- United Airlines (UA) CEO Scott Kirby has praised the carrier’s role in connecting the United States with the rest of the world, describing the airline as a global ambassador for American culture and values during a message marking the nation’s 250th Independence Day celebration.
Speaking to employees in a July 4 address delivered in front of United’s “Stars and Stripes” Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Kirby thanked staff for managing the airline’s busiest summer travel season while reaffirming his long-standing view that United Airlines has become “the best airline in the history of aviation.”
His remarks also highlighted the airline’s expanding international network and its role in bringing millions of travelers to and from the United States.

United Airlines CEO Message To Employees
Kirby opened his Independence Day message by describing July 4 as his favorite holiday and expressing pride in the freedoms and opportunities represented by the United States, Live And Let’s Fly reported.
He said United’s worldwide operations allow millions of Americans to experience other cultures while introducing international visitors to American traditions and values.
According to Kirby, the airline’s mission extends beyond transporting passengers between destinations. He said United helps strengthen cultural understanding by connecting people across continents and showcasing the opportunities available in the United States.
The CEO also recognized employees for maintaining operations during one of the busiest travel periods in the airline’s history.
Summer schedules remain challenging because of severe weather, air traffic control constraints, and consistently high passenger demand across the carrier’s network.
Kirby thanked staff for their efforts during these operational pressures and credited employees for helping United continue its growth as one of the world’s largest international airlines.

United Growth Focus Expands International Network
The message also reflected Kirby’s consistent emphasis on United’s long-term strategy.
Over the past several years, the airline has expanded its international route network, introduced new premium cabin products, invested in airport lounges, modernized its fleet, and enhanced its digital services.
Those investments have helped position United among the leading global carriers based in the United States. The airline has continued adding long-haul destinations while strengthening its presence at major hubs, allowing it to compete more aggressively in international markets.
Kirby used the occasion to reinforce employee pride, saying the company’s success is built on the dedication of its workforce rather than aircraft or infrastructure alone.
His comments aligned with previous messages in which he has linked United’s business growth with broader national and economic contributions.

Bold Leadership Claims Spark Debate
One statement from Kirby again attracted attention: his description of United as “the best airline in the history of aviation.” It is a phrase he has repeated on multiple occasions and has become closely associated with his leadership style.
Supporters point to United’s rapid international expansion, fleet renewal program, premium product investments, and technology improvements as evidence of the airline’s transformation in recent years.
Critics, however, argue that declaring any carrier the greatest in aviation history remains a highly subjective claim.
