SINGAPORE- Singapore Airlines (SQ) will restore daily Airbus A380 flights between Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) and Auckland Airport (AKL) from October 2025 as part of its IATA Winter 2026 schedule.
The move forms part of a broader expansion that will see the carrier operate 29% more A380 flights compared with the previous winter season.
The airline is also strengthening its presence across Australasia with Airbus A380 services to Sydney Airport (SYD) and Melbourne Airport (MEL), while adjusting aircraft deployment across its global network.
The changes highlight Singapore Airlines’ continued focus on high-demand long-haul markets and premium travel segments.

Singapore Airlines Expands A380 Ops Across Australasia
Singapore Airlines is increasing Airbus A380 utilization during the Winter 2026 schedule, with Auckland returning to the carrier’s global superjumbo network.
The airline previously operated the Airbus A380 on the Singapore-Auckland route between January and March this year.
Auckland has also been a regular Airbus A380 destination for Singapore Airlines for more than a decade, although operations have experienced several interruptions over the years.
According to updated schedules, daily Airbus A380 flights will return on October 25, coinciding with the start of the IATA Winter Schedule. The aircraft will operate between Singapore Changi Airport and Auckland Airport on the following services:
| Flight | Route | Departure | Arrival | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SQ285 | SIN – AKL | 10:35 PM | 1:25 PM (+1) | 9h 50m |
| SQ286 | AKL – SIN | 3:15 PM | 8:45 PM | 10h 30m |
Reported by Simple Flying, the revised schedule was not originally planned and represents a significant change to the airline’s winter network strategy.

Auckland Gains Capacity
The Airbus A380 deployment will replace Boeing 777-300ER aircraft that were originally scheduled to operate flights SQ285 and SQ286.
The aircraft upgrade will add approximately 206 seats per day in each direction, representing a 78% increase in capacity compared with the previously planned Boeing 777 operation.
The larger aircraft will also increase premium cabin availability, allowing Singapore Airlines to offer more Suites, Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class seats on the route.
Singapore Airlines will continue operating three daily services between Singapore and Auckland throughout the winter season.
Alongside the Airbus A380 flight, the airline will also deploy Boeing 777 and Boeing 787-9 aircraft on the route.

Dubai Loses Airbus A380 Service
To accommodate the return of the Airbus A380 to Auckland, Singapore Airlines has removed the aircraft from its originally planned daily Dubai operations.
The carrier had previously scheduled Airbus A380 service on the Singapore-Dubai route. However, updated schedules show the aircraft being reassigned to Auckland instead.
This adjustment allows Singapore Airlines to deploy its limited Airbus A380 fleet where demand and revenue potential are strongest.
The airline currently operates a fleet of 12 Airbus A380-800 aircraft, making fleet allocation decisions particularly important across its long-haul network.

Four Daily Airbus A380 Flights To Australasia
Australasia will account for four of Singapore Airlines’ nine daily Airbus A380 services during Winter 2026.
The airline plans to operate:
- Two daily Airbus A380 flights to Sydney Airport (SYD)
- One daily Airbus A380 flight to Melbourne Airport (MEL)
- One daily Airbus A380 flight to Auckland Airport (AKL)
Melbourne recently rejoined the Airbus A380 network, while Auckland is scheduled to return later in the year. Together, Australia and New Zealand will become one of the airline’s largest Airbus A380 markets.
The deployment strategy reflects Singapore Airlines’ focus on routes with strong passenger demand and significant premium travel traffic.

Airbus A380 Strategy
Singapore Airlines continues to position Singapore as a major connecting hub between Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
With some Middle Eastern airlines operating reduced capacity on certain routes because of regional challenges, Singapore Airlines has expanded its own long-haul offerings.
The carrier is using its Airbus A380 fleet to strengthen connectivity and provide additional travel options between Europe and Australasia through Singapore.
This winter, Singapore Airlines is scheduled to operate a record number of flights to both Australia and Europe, further reinforcing its position in these markets.

Singapore Airlines A380 Network Winter 2026
The airline’s Winter 2026 Airbus A380 network currently includes nine routes serving ten airports across Asia, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
Destinations scheduled to receive Airbus A380 service include:
- Singapore Changi Airport (SIN)
- London Heathrow Airport (LHR)
- Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG)
- Delhi Airport (DEL)
- Mumbai Airport (BOM)
- Sydney Airport (SYD)
- Melbourne Airport (MEL)
- Auckland Airport (AKL)
The network also reflects notable changes elsewhere.
Frankfurt Airport (FRA), which currently receives Airbus A380 service, is scheduled to lose the aircraft during the winter season and will instead be served by a smaller aircraft type. Dubai has also been removed from the planned Airbus A380 schedule as aircraft are reassigned to Auckland.
Despite the removal of Frankfurt and Dubai from the Airbus A380 network, Singapore Airlines is expanding its broader European operations and is expected to average 18 daily departures to Europe during the Winter 2026 season.

Singapore Airlines’ Long-Haul Strategy
The Airbus A380 continues to play an important role in Singapore Airlines’ network planning. With only 12 aircraft in the fleet, the carrier is concentrating deployments on routes where additional capacity and premium seating can generate the greatest commercial value.
The return of daily Airbus A380 flights to Auckland, combined with expanded services to Melbourne and continued double-daily operations to Sydney, demonstrates the airline’s confidence in demand across Australasia.
As Winter 2026 approaches, Singapore Airlines is increasing Airbus A380 operations, growing capacity, and further strengthening its position on some of the region’s most important long-haul routes.
