FRANKFURT— Lufthansa (LH) is preparing a sweeping overhaul of its long-haul onboard service as part of a new initiative designed to redefine the passenger experience.
The program, branded as “Future Onboard Experience,” will introduce major upgrades across cabins, starting from key hubs such as Frankfurt (FRA) and Munich (MUC).
The transformation will impact Business Class and Economy Class passengers in particular, with changes focused on food quality, service flexibility, and presentation.
The airline aims to align its onboard offering with evolving passenger expectations while improving consistency across its global network.

Lufthansa Cabin Service Upgrade
Lufthansa’s new onboard concept will introduce significant changes to how meals are prepared and delivered. The airline plans to eliminate frozen products entirely and shift toward fresher components across all long-haul services.
In Business Class, catering processes will be redesigned to improve both quality and presentation.
Individual meal elements such as proteins and side dishes will be heated separately, allowing better control over taste and appearance, AeroTelegraph flagged.
The airline also aims to resolve a common issue in Economy Class, where meal choices have sometimes been limited for passengers seated in later rows.
Future planning will ensure sufficient quantities so that all passengers can access their preferred options.

Economy Meal Changes on Lufthansa
Economy Class will see one of the most visible upgrades under the new program. Passengers will be offered three hot meal choices, along with access to menu cards before service begins.
This approach narrows the gap between Economy and higher cabin classes, offering greater transparency and choice.
Premium Economy will also receive enhancements, with more refined dishes designed to position it more clearly between Economy and Business Class.
These changes reflect a broader effort to improve passenger satisfaction across all price points. The airline is focusing on delivering a more consistent and predictable onboard experience.

Business Class Experience
Business Class passengers can expect additional service elements designed to enhance flexibility and comfort.
Lufthansa is introducing a new intermediate service concept featuring traditional German desserts and beverages, adding a regional touch to long-haul flights.
Passengers will also gain more control over their dining experience, including the ability to customize meal selections and adjust service timing. This shift aims to create a more personalized journey, especially on longer routes.
The overhaul is part of a large-scale operational effort, requiring the replacement of millions of onboard items ranging from tableware to service equipment.
The program will be implemented across all long-haul aircraft, regardless of cabin configuration.
