American Airlines Flight Diverted to Detroit
Flight 2819, operated by American Airlines, was originally scheduled to fly from New York to Chicago on Sunday afternoon when a passenger became disruptive during the journey.
According to local outlet Fox 2, which cited an airline spokesperson, the crew made the decision to divert the aircraft to Detroit as a precaution.
Upon arrival at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, the aircraft was removed from the runway in line with standard airport safety procedures.
Law enforcement officials, including federal agents and airport police, met the aircraft immediately after landing.
Passengers were safely deplaned and directed to the terminal, where they waited as authorities carried out a full inspection of the aircraft.

Security Inspection and FBI Clearance
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted a detailed search of the aircraft “out of an abundance of caution,” following established aviation security protocols.
According to The Independent, the FBI later confirmed in an official statement that the incident posed no threat to the public. The aircraft was cleared after inspection, allowing operations to proceed.
The nature of the disruption remains unclear, and authorities have not disclosed what actions, if any, were taken against the passenger involved.

Airline Response and Flight Rescheduling
American Airlines acknowledged the incident and issued a statement addressing the disruption. The airline said, “We appreciate our customers for their patience and thank our crew for their professionalism.”
Following the security clearance, the airline rescheduled Flight 2819 to depart from Detroit later on Sunday afternoon.
