FRANKFURT— Lufthansa (LH) is expanding its special anniversary fleet as part of celebrations marking 100 years since the airline’s founding. Following the recent arrival of a Boeing 787-9 in commemorative colors, two additional aircraft types will soon join the fleet wearing the distinctive anniversary livery.
The latest additions include an Airbus A320neo and an Airbus A350-900, both emerging from European paint facilities and heading toward operational hubs in Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Munich Airport (MUC). These aircraft reinforce Lufthansa’s intention to showcase its centenary not only on flagship long-haul routes but also across its core short- and medium-haul network.

Lufthansa Anniversary Livery on A350 and A320neo
Lufthansa’s anniversary livery centers on a deep blue fuselage paired with a striking white crane, the airline’s long-standing emblem. The crane’s wings visually align with the aircraft wings, creating a seamless design that emphasizes motion and continuity.
A “100” marking appears prominently on the left side of the fuselage, while “1926 | 2026” is placed on the right, anchoring the aircraft in the airline’s century-long history.
An additional “100” is displayed on the aircraft’s underside, ensuring visibility from the ground during overflights and landings.
This design language first debuted on the Boeing 787-9 and now extends across multiple fleet types. The approach allows Lufthansa to present a unified anniversary identity across varying mission profiles and passenger segments.

A320 And A350 Delivery
The Airbus A320neo, registered as D-AING, is scheduled to arrive in Frankfurt on January 19, 2026. After completing entry-into-service checks, the aircraft will begin regular operations, with its first commercial flight planned to Larnaca, Cyprus.
Shortly after, the Airbus A350-900 registered D-AIXL is expected to arrive in Munich on February 3, 2026. The aircraft will strengthen Lufthansa’s long-haul capacity while serving as a high-visibility ambassador for the centenary year on intercontinental routes.
Both aircraft departed from specialized paint shops in Norwich, England, and Châteauroux, France. Their inclusion demonstrates Lufthansa’s effort to balance operational readiness with symbolic presentation during a milestone year.

More Aircraft Planned
The anniversary fleet already includes the Boeing 787-9 “Berlin,” which arrived in Frankfurt in late December and enters regular service on January 20, 2026. Its first assignment will be a long-haul flight to Mumbai, highlighting the global reach of the centenary program.
Lufthansa has confirmed that three additional widebody aircraft will receive the special livery by fall 2026. These include an Airbus A380, a Boeing 747-8, and the airline’s first Airbus A350-1000, scheduled for delivery in October.
By extending the anniversary design across legacy and next-generation aircraft, Lufthansa is linking its historic past with its future fleet strategy. The move underscores long-term confidence in both brand identity and network growth.

Bottom Line
Lufthansa’s growing anniversary fleet reflects a carefully planned tribute to its 100-year history.
The addition of the A320neo and A350-900 ensures that the centenary presence spans short-haul and long-haul operations alike.
With more aircraft still to come, the anniversary livery will remain a visible symbol of Lufthansa’s evolution well beyond 2026.
