LONDON- Richard Branson-backed Virgin Atlantic (VS) will launch seasonal direct services between London Heathrow (LHR) and Phuket (HKT), operating three times weekly from 18 October 2026.
The carrier will use its long-haul horse, a Boeing 787-9 aircraft, on these flights, and is offering special holiday packages which will go on sale later in 2025.

Virgin Atlantic London to Phuket Flight
Virgin Atlantic will operate VS214/VS215 three times weekly between London Heathrow and Phuket.
- Eastbound flights depart LHR at 12:00 and arrive HKT at 07:10 (+1 day).
- Westbound flights depart HKT at 09:20 and arrive LHR at 16:00.
The service runs on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from London, and Thursdays, Saturdays, and Mondays from Phuket.
Flight times are published as roughly 12 hours 10 minutes eastbound and 13 hours 40 minutes westbound for the 6,158-mile sector.
The airline will deploy the Boeing 787-9 on the route. Configured with 258 seats, the 787-9 cabins include 31 Upper Class (business), 35 Premium, and 192 Economy seats.
All aircraft used on this route are WiFi-enabled and offer the carrier’s full-service onboard product with complimentary meals and in-flight entertainment, OMAAT flagged.

Pricing, Holidays, and On-sale Dates
Virgin Atlantic Holidays will offer packaged options for the new route. Package holidays go on sale from 30 October 2025 with lead-in prices published at £999 per person for a seven-night October 2026 stay in a 4-star property; a 5-star lead-in price of £1,599 per person was also published.
These prices are per person based on two adults and include return Economy Classic fares and applicable taxes and fuel surcharges at the time of publication. Availability, taxes, and surcharges may change; customers should confirm details at purchase.
The new London–Phuket link gives Heathrow its only direct connection to Phuket and plugs into Virgin Atlantic Holidays’ wider Thailand inventory.
The holiday operator lists more than 20 properties on Phuket and over 80 across Thailand, including Khao Lak, Krabi, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Yao Noi/Yai, Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Pattaya, and Bangkok.
Partnerships with Bangkok Airways and local ground/sea transfer providers offer onward connections for travelers wanting to continue beyond Phuket.
Seasonal strategy and commercial rationale
The route is presented as a winter seasonal service aimed at the demand for luxury sun escapes from the UK.
It complements Virgin Atlantic’s existing and seasonal long-haul leisure destinations such as Cancun, the Maldives, Dubai, Cape Town, and year-round Caribbean services.
The announcement positions Phuket as a leisure-led growth market for the carrier in winter 2026.

Operational and Fleet Plans
The carrier plans a cabin overhaul program beginning in 2028; the 787-9s serving the route will retain the current cabin configuration until that refurbishment begins.
Virgin Atlantic states a commitment to operating a young, fuel-efficient fleet and has signaled target dates for fleet renewal and sustainability measures elsewhere in its network.
Virgin Atlantic was founded in 1984 and operates a mix of long-haul services from the UK. The carrier participates in an extended joint venture with Air France–KLM and Delta Air Lines and joined the SkyTeam alliance in March 2023.
Its transatlantic network remains a core strategic focus while the airline selectively expands leisure routes from Heathrow.

Travel Guide to Phuket
Phuket International Airport (HKT) connects travellers from across the world to Thailand’s largest island—famous for its beaches, lively towns, and easy access to the Andaman Sea.
Over an 18-night stay split between Karon and Surin, it’s clear why millions visit each year. While the island’s popularity has made it undeniably touristy, Phuket still delivers blue skies, warm seas, and a mix of adventure and relaxation that few destinations match.
Exploring Thailand’s Largest Island
Phuket is one of Southeast Asia’s most visited islands, thanks to its modern infrastructure, well-maintained roads, international airport, and wide range of hotels for every budget.
The island blends convenience with natural beauty—soft sand beaches, clear water, and easy access to nearby islands like Phi Phi and James Bond Island.
For visitors arriving via Bangkok (BKK) or directly from international hubs such as Singapore (SIN), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), and Hong Kong (HKG), Phuket serves as both a standalone holiday destination and a gateway to southern Thailand’s smaller islands.
Patong, Karon, Kata, and Surin are among its best-known areas. Patong buzzes with nightlife and shopping, while Karon and Kata are family-friendly, and Surin offers a quieter, more refined atmosphere. For those seeking peace, Freedom Beach and Nai Harn are excellent alternatives away from heavy crowds.

Why Phuket Remains a Holiday Favourite
Despite its reputation for overdevelopment, Phuket offers practical advantages few other Thai islands can match. Travellers find everything within easy reach—restaurants, spas, beach bars, and accommodation ranging from affordable guesthouses to world-class resorts.
The island is ideal for travellers short on time who want direct international connections, minimal transfers, and reliable infrastructure. It also works well as the first stop on a longer Thailand itinerary, allowing visitors to unwind before exploring regions like Krabi, Koh Lanta, or Chiang Mai.

Getting To and From Phuket
Phuket International Airport (HKT) offers direct flights from cities like Bangkok (BKK), Chiang Mai (CNX), Singapore (SIN), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), and Hong Kong (HKG). European routes operate seasonally, and domestic flights make it easy to connect to Koh Samui (USM), Krabi (KBV), and Hat Yai (HDY).
