LONDON- Virgin Atlantic (VS) will increase flights to Bengaluru (BLR) as demand on India routes continues to climb. The airline plans a major uplift on its Heathrow (LHR) schedule in early 2026.
The carrier joins British Airways (BA), Air India (AI), and IndiGo (6E) in expanding operations to major Indian cities as travel volumes remain strong.

Virgin Atlantic Bengaluru Flights Expansion
Virgin Atlantic will raise its London Heathrow to Bengaluru schedule from seven to 11 flights per week during January, February, and March 2026. The move brings the route close to a twice-daily operation at a time when capacity to India remains in high demand.
India has become Virgin Atlantic’s fastest-growing international market outside the United States. The airline already operates double daily services to both Delhi (DEL) and Mumbai (BOM). With the Bengaluru uplift, the carrier edges toward six daily departures to India across its network.
Capacity growth has been significant since 2019. Virgin Atlantic reports a 250 percent increase in seats to India and now provides more than 500,000 seats each year.
The Bengaluru flights will continue to use the Boeing 787-9. These aircraft still feature the older Upper Class cabin, which remains in rotation on several long-haul routes, HfP reported.

Why Bengaluru has become a strategic focus?
Bengaluru’s role as a major technology and business hub gives it strong year-round demand from both corporate and leisure travellers.
The market also benefits from connections across North America through partnerships with Delta Air Lines (DL) and WestJet (WS).
Virgin Atlantic notes that the route has delivered consistent performance, which supports the decision to add more frequencies during peak travel months.
The airline’s recent track record in India contrasts with earlier attempts to grow outside the US. Virgin Atlantic’s brand and product have gained solid traction among travellers in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
Higher frequency and increased seat supply help strengthen the carrier’s competitive position against incumbents already operating larger networks across the UK and India.
Operating the additional Bengaluru flights with Boeing 787-9 aircraft ensures schedule reliability during the seasonal increase. While the older Upper Class seat remains on these jets, the aircraft’s efficiency supports Virgin Atlantic’s broader strategy to maintain consistent capacity while managing operating costs.

Executive Remarks
Virgin Atlantic’s Chief Commercial Officer Juha Jaervinen says the schedule increase aligns with strong demand and reinforces the airline’s long-term commitment to India.
He notes Bengaluru’s significance in the technology and business sectors and highlights the added connectivity benefits for travellers linking through the UK to North America.
