ZURICH— SWISS International Air Lines (LX) has officially welcomed its first Airbus A350-900 to its home base at Zurich Airport. The aircraft, registered as HB-IFA, arrived from Airbus’s Toulouse (TLS) facility on Thursday, October 9, and touched down at 15:25 local time.
The brand-new twinjet, featuring a unique “Wanderlust” livery, represents the beginning of a new era for SWISS. The A350 is the airline’s most technologically advanced and environmentally efficient aircraft, and it introduces the new “SWISS Senses” cabin concept.

SWISS: A New Chapter
SWISS CEO Jens Fehlinger described the delivery as a “great day” for the airline, emphasizing that the Airbus A350 symbolizes innovation, efficiency, and premium quality:
With our Airbus A350, we’re transporting our customers into a new era of long-haul air travel. This aircraft embodies everything we stand for — technological progress, sustainability, and a deeply Swiss sense of hospitality.
The new widebody jet was ferried from Toulouse by three SWISS pilots and greeted by hundreds of spectators at Zurich’s observation deck.
The “Wanderlust” livery pays homage to Switzerland’s natural beauty and cultural diversity, serving as a visual statement of the airline’s national pride and forward-looking vision.
By 2031, SWISS plans to introduce ten Airbus A350s into its long-haul fleet, gradually replacing older aircraft types and strengthening the airline’s environmental commitments.

SWISS Senses Cabin
The Airbus A350 debuts SWISS’s new “SWISS Senses” cabin, a next-generation interior design developed in partnership with the Lufthansa Group.
According to Chief Commercial Officer Heike Birlenbach, the concept redefines premium travel with personalized lighting, ergonomic seating, and a refined ambiance across all cabin classes:
Our new Airbus A350 stands for ‘premium’ as we understand it: modern, individual, and marked by service that is attentive, personal, and unmistakably Swiss…Passengers will enjoy more space, quieter cabins, and a sense of well-being from takeoff to landing.
The Airbus A350-900 is recognized as one of the most fuel-efficient and quietest widebody aircraft in operation today.
With a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions compared to its predecessors, the A350 plays a key role in SWISS’s goal of operating a more sustainable fleet.
The aircraft’s advanced composite materials also enable higher cabin humidity and lower pressurization, improving passenger comfort on long-haul flights.

Entry Into Service
In the coming weeks, SWISS will operate short European flights with the A350 to support pilot familiarization and crew training.
The aircraft’s first passenger service is scheduled for October 25 from Zurich to Palma de Mallorca (PMI).
The first long-haul flight will follow on November 20, connecting Zurich to Boston (BOS). Both routes will feature the complete SWISS Senses experience and upgraded onboard service.
The airline has released official images and video footage of the A350’s arrival via its online newsroom, with additional visual materials to be shared later this month.

Bottom Line
SWISS’s introduction of the Airbus A350 marks a turning point for the airline, combining advanced technology, improved sustainability, and an enhanced passenger experience.
The arrival of HB-IFA not only strengthens SWISS’s long-haul operations but also reflects its commitment to offering a modern, premium product that celebrates both innovation and Swiss heritage.
