MONTREAL- Canadian flag carrier Air Canada (AC) has launched a new transatlantic service from Montréal-Trudeau Airport (YUL) to Edinburgh Airport (EDI), strengthening its seasonal European network.
The inaugural flight AC936 took off on June 26, offering the only direct link between Montréal and the Scottish capital. Operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8, this route marks Air Canada’s (AC) second service to Scotland alongside its Toronto (YYZ) to Edinburgh (EDI) route.
Air Canada Montreal to Edinburgh Flight
Air Canada’s latest transatlantic expansion further deepens its presence in the UK market. The Montréal–Edinburgh route provides three-times-weekly service until September 7, creating a convenient summer travel option for both leisure and business travelers.
The flight schedule is designed for optimal connectivity:
- Flight AC936 departs Montréal at 21:40 and lands in Edinburgh at 09:05 the next day, operating on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
- The return flight, AC937, leaves Edinburgh at 11:15 and arrives in Montréal at 13:35 on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Air Canada executives highlighted the strategic importance of this connection, noting the cultural and economic ties between Canada and Scotland. The service enhances Montréal’s status as a major hub for North American travelers heading to Europe.
Rocky Lo, Air Canada’s Managing Director of International Sales, stated:
We are thrilled to be taking to the skies with our latest transatlantic route from the Scottish capital to our home hub, Montréal, just in time for summer.
Rocky Lo, Air Canada’s Managing Director of International Sales
Edinburgh is an important destination for Air Canada, thanks to the strong cultural ties between Scotland and Canada, so we are proud to be solidifying our presence in the market with the new route, working with our partners at Edinburgh Airport.
As the only airline connecting these two iconic cities, initial demand for the route has already been strong, and we expect interest to grow even further in the coming months, as leisure and business travellers plan their last-minute summer trips.”
This new service complements Air Canada’s recently introduced European routes, including Montréal–Porto (OPO), Toronto–Prague (PRG), and Naples (NAP), as well as the return of Ottawa–London Heathrow (LHR) service. The growing list demonstrates the airline’s intent to expand its summer footprint in key transatlantic markets.
Minister for Connectivity Jim Fairlie said:
I am pleased to welcome the launch of Air Canada’s new service between Edinburgh and Montréal, further strengthening our direct links to Canada.

Scotland has longstanding and deep-rooted ties with Canada, and this new service will help grow the economic benefits of our tourism sector and provide additional connectivity for business to the Canadian market.
I wish Air Canada every success with their new Montréal service and welcome their continued commitment to the Scottish market in a highly competitive environment.”
Passengers arriving in Edinburgh were greeted with traditional Scottish bagpipes, while Montréal-bound travelers were treated to a themed cake shaped like a suitcase and decorated with Canadian motifs. Edinburgh-based supplier 3D Cakes provided the celebratory dessert.
Edinburgh Airport’s Support
Edinburgh Airport (EDI) officials welcomed the new route as a valuable boost to the airport’s growing long-haul network. The service contributes to the airport’s goal of enhancing global connectivity, particularly with strong tourism and economic ties to Canada.
Gordon Dewar, CEO of Edinburgh Airport, expressed enthusiasm about the increased traffic from Canada, noting the importance of seamless direct links between the two countries.
We – or should I say oui – are delighted to welcome our guests from Montréal to Scotland’s capital, giving them the opportunity to experience everything our fantastic city has to offer.
Gordon Dewar, CEO of Edinburgh Airport
We know there is strong interest in Scotland around the world, and Canada remains one of our key markets for both inbound and outbound tourism. That’s why it makes perfect sense to make travel between our countries as seamless as possible by adding more direct connections.
We have an excellent relationship with Air Canada, and we’re both thrilled to see two of those iconic tailfins at Edinburgh Airport.”
The route also enjoys strong governmental support. Scottish and Canadian officials emphasized the value of direct air service in strengthening bilateral ties, tourism, business opportunities, and cultural exchanges.
