SUCEAVA- Wizz Air (W6), one of the region’s leading budget carriers, has announced an ambitious expansion. Eastern Europe’s low-cost aviation market just got a major boost from Suceava International Airport (SCV).
Announced earlier today, the new flights will roll out between December 2 and December 18, 2025, connecting Suceava to key European cities across six countries. Wizz Air is introducing eight new routes to key European destinations. This development signals Wizz Air’s deepening commitment to Romania’s growing market.
Wizz Air Bets Big on Suceava
Starting in December 2025 and rolling into early 2026, Wizz Air (W6) will connect Suceava with Vienna (VIE), Bergamo, Bologna, Birmingham, Karlsruhe, Charleroi, Venice, and Larnaca. Frequencies will vary from two to four flights per week depending on the route.

Wizz Air will reportedly base two Airbus A320s in Suceava. This shows Wizz Air’s confidence in the region. As per the European Commission, Romania’s economy is set to grow by 3.5% in 2025. The growth is driven by stronger exports and internal demand.
Wizz Air’s expansion fits well into this economic optimism. This new expansion will offer employment opportunities and shall increase inbound tourism potential.
Notably, the flights to Birmingham (BHX) will cater to the significant Romanian diaspora in the UK, offering a convenient link for families, students, and leisure travelers.
Similarly, Karlsruhe and Charleroi serve as important nodes for both business and diaspora communities across Germany and Belgium, respectively.
Suceava: A City Rich in History
Suceava was once the capital of the Principality of Moldavia. The city boasts some of the major cultural landmarks, like the Painted Monasteries of Bucovina and Saint George’s Church. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Similarly, the new flights to Vienna, Bologna, and Charleroi will serve both tourists and business travelers looking for efficient and hassle-free connections. This latest move from Wizz Air shows low-cost carriers’ increasing interest in Eastern Europe.
According to GlobalData, Eastern Europe welcomed over 70 million international visitors in 2024. Wizz Air’s new expansion aligns perfectly with this momentum, offering more choices to underserved cities while positioning itself as the carrier of choice in the region.
The addition of these routes will enhance connectivity from Suceava airport, offering both short-haul leisure and essential diaspora connections. It’s a major win for Romanian aviation and a welcome boost for Suceava’s local economy.
Bottom line
Wizz Air’s new expansion is clearly aimed at solidifying its footprint in a rapidly growing region of Eastern Europe. Ryanair (FR) closed operations in Suceava and no longer operates the flights. Wizz Air stepping up in this situation is encouraging news for Suceava.
Wizz Air might emerge as a more competitive player in the Romanian aviation market.
