HELSINKI- Industrial action by the Finnish Aviation Union is set to disrupt operations at Finnair (AY), leading to the cancellation of approximately 110 flights on 4 June 2025. The disruptions will affect thousands of travelers at Helsinki Airport (HEL), Finnair’s primary hub.
The airline expects service interruptions throughout the day, especially in ground handling and catering. Affected passengers will be rebooked on alternative flights or offered full refunds for unused tickets.
Finnair Cancels 110 Flights Amid Strike
Finnair has confirmed that the industrial action at Helsinki Airport (HEL) on 4 June 2025, led by the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU), will significantly affect its operations.
The action targets key support functions—ground handling and catering—across various work shifts, making it difficult for the airline to maintain regular flight schedules.
Approximately 110 flights have been canceled, impacting around 11,000 passengers. The cancellations are part of Finnair’s effort to manage safety and service quality during the strike.
The airline began offering rescheduling options in advance, and many customers have already adjusted their travel plans.
Affected passengers will be notified directly once their flight is canceled. Rebooking options will appear automatically in the airline’s Manage Booking portal and mobile app.
Customers can choose the proposed rerouting, modify the route within availability, or request a full refund for any unused tickets.

Passenger Guidance and Preparation
Travelers flying through Helsinki Airport (HEL) on 4 June are advised to:
- Check-in online before arriving at the airport.
- Arrive early due to possible baggage handling delays.
- Carry essential items, including medications, in hand luggage.
Finnair has urged all passengers to ensure their contact information is accurate in their booking records to receive timely updates regarding cancellations or rebooking instructions.
Possible Future Disruptions on 11 June
The IAU has announced another round of industrial action on 11 June, which could again impact Finnair’s (AY) operations, especially those handled by its regional partner Norra. While the full effect is still under review, Finnair expects delays or cancellations on that day as well.
Customers with flights booked for 11 June can proactively change their travel dates through Finnair’s customer service or the original booking provider.
