DELHI- IndiGo Airlines (6E), Delta Air Lines (DL), Air France-KLM (AF/KL), and Virgin Atlantic (VS) have announced a strategic partnership linking India with Europe and North America. The collaboration aims to provide seamless connectivity via major hubs such as New Delhi (DEL), Amsterdam (AMS), Paris (CDG), London (LHR), and Atlanta (ATL).
With India’s fast-growing aviation market as a focal point, the alliance leverages IndiGo’s domestic reach and partners’ transatlantic presence to deliver improved access, smoother journeys, and greater global integration. This multi-carrier effort anticipates significant growth in long-haul travel and sets the stage for deeper commercial and operational cooperation.
IndiGo SkyTeam Alliance
This new alliance represents a landmark development in global aviation, combining the strengths of four major carriers to meet rising international travel demand.
IndiGo (6E), India’s largest airline by market share, will now connect its expansive domestic network to Delta Air Lines’ (DL) vast North American presence, Air France-KLM’s (AF/KL) transatlantic and European coverage, and Virgin Atlantic’s (VS) strong UK-to-India operations.
The collaboration builds on existing codeshare agreements between IndiGo and both Air France-KLM and Virgin Atlantic. These partnerships have already enabled over 30 destination connections within India for European travelers.
With the inclusion of Delta and the launch of IndiGo’s new long-haul routes to Europe, the combined network will offer streamlined access to dozens of cities across the United States, Canada, Europe, and India.
This move coincides with IndiGo’s aggressive global expansion strategy. The airline plans to increase its wide-body fleet with six damp-leased Boeing 787s and has placed firm orders for 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, signaling its intent to become a global player by 2030.
Strengthening Intercontinental Routes
Delta (DL) has confirmed its intention to resume nonstop services from Atlanta (ATL) to Delhi (DEL), subject to regulatory approvals.
This will significantly strengthen the U.S.-India corridor. Meanwhile, KLM (KL) will launch a new route from Amsterdam (AMS) to Hyderabad (HYD) in September 2025, allowing Air France-KLM to extend IndiGo’s reach to 24 additional cities beyond Hyderabad.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the partnership goes beyond passenger services. It proposes integrated collaboration in cargo, sales, and loyalty programs, along with non-commercial areas such as maintenance, sustainability, training, and digital transformation to serve joint customers more effectively.
Once regulatory approvals are in place, IndiGo will begin marketing partner-operated flights under its 6E* code.
This development will enable passengers to book complete itineraries from Indian cities to Europe and North America on a single ticket, enhancing convenience, baggage transfer, and loyalty benefits.
Future Outlook
The partnership holds the potential to redefine air travel between India, Europe, and North America.
By combining operational strengths and route synergies, the alliance will reduce connection times, optimize schedules, and provide travelers with more choices across time zones and continents.
Additionally, the carriers aim to explore mutual benefits in technology, customer service, and sustainability, ensuring the alliance remains competitive in a rapidly evolving aviation landscape.
As long-haul traffic continues to rebound post-pandemic, this partnership is poised to set new standards for international airline cooperation.
