DOHA- Qatar Airways Cargo (QR), the cargo division of Qatar Airways, has been named the launch customer for the Mammoth Freighters 777-200LRMF aircraft. This strategic acquisition includes five aircraft secured through an agreement with Jetran, LLC, a Texas-based aviation leasing and services provider.
The agreement marks a major step for Qatar Airways Cargo in expanding its global freighter operations from Hamad International Airport (DOH), leveraging the long-range capabilities of the Boeing 777-200LRMF to enhance its premium cargo network.
Qatar Airways Cargo Expands Freighter Fleet
Qatar Airways Cargo, recognized as the world’s largest air freight carrier, has taken a bold step by becoming the inaugural customer of the newly converted Mammoth Freighters 777-200LRMF.
This decision strengthens its strategic ambition to lead global cargo logistics with an advanced, fuel-efficient, and high-capacity fleet.
The agreement with Jetran, LLC involves five aircraft, emphasizing Qatar Airways Cargo’s proactive approach to future-proofing its operations.
Mark Drusch, Chief Officer Cargo, stated that the additional capacity provided by the Mammoth 777-200LRMF would be instrumental in supporting the airline’s fleet growth and service expansion plans.
Mammoth Freighters LLC achieved a key milestone with the successful initial test flight of its first 777-200LRMF prototype, registered as N705DN.
The conversion was carried out at Aspire MRO in Fort Worth, Texas (DFW), highlighting Mammoth’s technical capabilities in widebody aircraft modification.
This freighter variant features the Collins Aerospace cargo loading system, specifically engineered for the 777 platform.
Developed over three years, this system offers part commonality and operational efficiency already proven in existing 777 freighter models.
Collaboration and Long-Term Vision
Bill Tarpley, CEO of Mammoth Freighters, emphasized that this achievement is the result of years of collaborative engineering and innovation.
The company’s goal is to deliver one of the world’s most efficient long-range freighters, and Qatar Airways Cargo’s trust in the aircraft underscores its potential.
Jetran’s CEO, Jordan Jaffe, praised the aircraft’s performance during testing and reiterated the company’s confidence in Mammoth’s engineering team.
He noted that Qatar Airways Cargo’s involvement is crucial in setting the standard for this new generation of converted freighters.
Currently, Mammoth Freighters is working on seven aircraft conversions across two locations: five at Aspire MRO (Fort Worth, Texas) and two at STS Aviation Services (Manchester, UK – MAN).
The company holds confirmed orders for 35 total conversions across a varied client base.
The 777-200LRMF’s entry into service with Qatar Airways Cargo is expected to boost capacity on long-haul routes, further cementing the airline’s leadership in air freight logistics from its hub at Hamad International Airport (DOH).
