SAN DIEGO- Alaska Airlines (AS) is expanding its presence at San Diego International Airport (SAN) with three new nonstop routes using Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft, solidifying its position as San Diego’s leading airline.
The carrier will launch year-round service between San Diego (SAN) and Phoenix (PHX) on August 20, followed by routes to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Denver (DEN) beginning October 4, with each destination receiving three daily flights.
Alaska Airlines San Diego Routes
As the only national airline headquartered on the West Coast, Alaska Airlines has strategically positioned itself to serve the San Diego market comprehensively.
With these new additions, Alaska will serve 44 nonstop destinations from San Diego International Airport—more than any other carrier at SAN—with over 90 peak-day departures.
The airline’s network from San Diego spans coast to coast, including flights to the East Coast, the Northwest, throughout California, Mexico, Florida, and all four major Hawaiian islands.
Starting October 26, Alaska will significantly increase flight frequencies on popular existing routes from San Diego.
Travelers will benefit from six daily nonstops to Las Vegas (LAS), Sacramento (SMF), and San Jose (SJC), representing a 50% increase in service. Salt Lake City (SLC) will receive three daily flights, enhancing connectivity options for business and leisure travelers alike.

Alaska Airlines offers passengers a premium travel experience with industry-leading features and benefits. The carrier’s Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft provide superior comfort with the most legroom in First Class among major U.S. carriers (excluding lie-flat seats) and spacious Premium Class options.
All mainline flights feature streaming-fast satellite Wi-Fi available for purchase, power outlets at every seat, and hundreds of free movies and TV shows accessible on personal devices.
The airline’s recent combination with Hawaiian Airlines has expanded its network considerably, offering optimal connections on more than 1,650 daily flights during summer 2025.
Through its oneworld alliance membership and additional global partnerships, Alaska enables one-stop service from San Diego to over 330 international destinations, with passengers able to earn and redeem Mileage Plan miles on more than 65% of all international flights to Europe and Asia from San Diego International Airport.
Expanding Regional Presence
In March 2025, Alaska Airlines became the only carrier offering daily nonstop service between San Diego (SAN) and Washington Reagan National (DCA), addressing a significant gap in cross-country connectivity.
Prior to this route launch, San Diego had been the largest U.S. airport without service to Washington Reagan National, highlighting Alaska’s commitment to providing valuable connections for Southern California travelers.
“We’re proud to already serve San Diego and the surrounding region with the most nonstop destinations from San Diego,” said Ben Minicucci, CEO of Alaska Airlines. “These exciting new additions to our network further expand our ability to take San Diegans directly to where they want to go, better than any other airline, with our premium onboard service and global loyalty program.”
Customer-Focused Benefits
Alaska Airlines continues to differentiate itself through customer-friendly policies and promotions. The carrier’s Mileage Plan loyalty program offers the fastest path to elite status among major airlines, with no change fees and generous earning and redemption opportunities.
New members from California and Hawaii can currently receive $50 off their next flight when they enroll, while residents of other states can enjoy a $25 discount.
Kimberly Becker, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority President and CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion: “We are very pleased that Alaska Airlines is continuing to grow its service from San Diego. The timing is perfect for adding new routes and increasing frequency to existing flights. We look forward to welcoming both leisure and business visitors to our year-round sunny climate while providing more flights from SAN to destinations across the country.”
