ORLANDO- Delta Air Lines (DL) flight from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) with an A330 plane experienced engine fire while taking off from MCO on April 21, 2025.

Delta Plane Engine Fire at Orlando
According to reports, the fire started in the tailpipe of the right engine of the Airbus A330 aircraft.
There were over 200 passengers and crew onboard the aircraft, and they were evacuated safely at Orlando Airport.
“We appreciate our customers’ cooperation and apologize for the experience. Nothing is more important than safety, and Delta teams will work to get our customers to their final destinations as soon as possible,” Delta said in a statement.
The airline confirmed 10 flight attendants and 2 pilots were on board alongside the passengers during the incident.
Evacuated customers returned to the terminal building, where Delta provided food and beverages while they awaited alternative travel arrangements.
Maintenance teams have begun examining the aircraft to determine the cause of the fire.
“Delta will bring in additional aircraft to help get customers to their final destinations,” the airline stated.
Orlando International Airport also addressed the situation, confirming, “The fire was contained and is out. Some passengers were evacuated via an emergency slide.”

Similar Incident
Delta Air Lines passengers experienced a harrowing incident when engine fire forced an emergency evacuation of their Boeing 757 at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The flight crew’s swift response ensured the safety of over 200 passengers as emergency services contained the situation.
The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation into the engine issue that occurred as the aircraft accelerated for takeoff. Delta flight DL2668, scheduled to depart Atlanta for Minneapolis-St. Paul on Friday morning (January 10, 2025), encountered problems with its 21-year-old Boeing 757 during the critical takeoff phase.
Pilots detected an “engine issue” and executed an emergency stop, followed by evacuation procedures that deployed emergency slides onto the tarmac. Eyewitness footage captured firefighters extinguishing flames in the starboard engine as passengers exited the aircraft onto the icy runway.
Delta confirmed 201 passengers were aboard, along with four flight attendants and two pilots. Though the airline initially reported no injuries, airport authorities later confirmed four minor injuries occurred during the evacuation, with one person requiring hospital transport.
“Our focus is to address their immediate needs and get them to their destinations safely,” Delta stated while apologizing for the disruption.
The FAA investigation began immediately after the 9:05 a.m. incident. The agency issued a temporary ground stop for all Delta departures to Atlanta, compounding operational challenges the airline already faced.
Severe winter weather further strained Delta’s hub operations, reducing the airline’s planned Friday schedule by approximately 10%. This disruption raises concerns about recovery capabilities and potential passenger impacts similar to last year’s operational meltdown that stranded thousands of travelers.
