MUMBAI- The All India Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Union (AIAMEU) will initiate a symbolic protest by displaying black ribbons for three days beginning April 2, 2025.
The union represents approximately 1,100 staff employed under Fixed Term Employment (FTE) contracts at AIESL, formerly known as Air India Engineering Services Limited.
AIESL FTE Staff Protest
AIAMEU members at AI Engineering Services Ltd (AIESL) alleged on Tuesday that management’s recent actions violate ethical governance principles. Their letter to the AIESL CEO demands an end to “arbitrary decision-making” and calls for equitable treatment of all employees.
The union claims recent management decisions, including changes to promotion policies and failure to implement salary revisions for 2-3 years, have generated fear and dissatisfaction among workers.
They warned that inadequate response to their concerns could trigger “further collective actions” including escalated protests and legal proceedings.
AIESL CEO Sharad Agarwal denied the allegations when contacted by PTI, asserting the company maintains non-discriminatory practices toward all employees. “The company has a declared safety and quality policy and encourages open reporting. There is also a redressal mechanism in place for the employees,” Agarwal stated.
He emphasized that AIESL avoids arbitrary decision-making, confirming that “for all major decisions, employees are always taken on board.” Agarwal expressed confusion about the renewed concerns, noting that a bilateral agreement already exists with the union. “I don’t know why issues are being raked up again,” he remarked.
Fair Demands
A letter obtained by Aviation A2Z reveals the All India Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Union (AIAMEU) has formally protested against management practices at AI Engineering Services Limited.
The union’s secretary, Prashant Kumar, addressed the letter to the AIESL Chief Executive Officer, condemning what they describe as “arbitrary decisions, dictatorship, and discrimination” within the organization.
The letter explicitly criticizes recent management actions including changes to promotion policies, failure to implement salary revisions for around three years, and uniform color modifications. AIAMEU claims these decisions have “violated the principles of ethical governance” and created “an atmosphere of fear, dissatisfaction, and demotivation among employees.”
As a symbolic protest, union members will display black ribbons for three days starting April 2. The union characterizes this action as “not merely a symbolic gesture but a call for justice, equality, and accountability within our workplace.”
The letter outlines four specific demands: ending arbitrary decision-making by implementing transparent consultation processes; ensuring fair and equal treatment regardless of employment status (Fixed Term Employment or Permanent); fostering a culture of open communication and mutual respect; and establishing an unbiased committee to address complaints and grievances.
AIAMEU warns that inadequate response from management “may lead to further collective actions, including but not limited to escalated protests and formal legal recourse.” The letter concludes by expressing hope that management will “recognize the gravity of the situation and take corrective steps.”
