MUMBAI- Tata Group-owned LCC subsidiary Air India Express (IX) added 13 new city pairs or routes in January 2025.
The exclusive analysis shared by the Indian route and fleet tracking page, Aviation All reveals the new routes and flights added by Indian carriers.
Air India Express New Routes
Indian carriers have significantly expanded their route networks in January 2025, launching fifteen new city pairs and adding 166 weekly two-way flights across the country and to international destinations.
Air India Express emerges as the most aggressive expander, introducing thirteen new routes with 138 weekly flights. The airline has strengthened its presence in Eastern India by connecting Bhubaneswar to multiple cities including Kochi, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Patna.
The carrier has also established new connections from Bengaluru to Patna and Dammam, while Hyderabad received three new destinations – Indore, Patna, and Phuket.
The airline’s expansion includes strategic routes in South India, connecting Chennai with Port Blair, Mangaluru with Pune, and Trichy with Dammam.
In the Northeast, a new route links Guwahati with Dimapur. Most of these routes are being serviced by Boeing 737-8 aircraft, with seven weekly frequencies on many sectors.
Other Carriers Routes
Akasa Air (QP) has entered the religious tourism market by launching a Mumbai-Ayodhya route with seven weekly departures using Boeing 737-8 aircraft. The service commenced on January 10, 2025, marking the airline’s commitment to connecting major metros with emerging destinations.
Star Air (S5) has enhanced regional connectivity by introducing flights between Hyderabad and Jharsuguda, operating seven times weekly with ERJ 175 aircraft. This service, which began on January 1, 2025, strengthens the airline’s presence in tier-2 cities.
Air India Prayagraj Flights
Air India (AI) has filed a comprehensive flight schedule enhancement centered on Prayagraj (IXD) between February 15-28, 2025, significantly boosting connectivity to major Indian cities as reported by Aviation All.
The Delhi-Prayagraj route will operate six times daily using Airbus A321 aircraft. The first flight departs Delhi at 0445 hours, arriving at 0600 hours. Additional departures from Delhi are scheduled at 0545 and 1200 hours. Return flights from Prayagraj depart at 0640, 0740, and 1410 hours.
A new Prayagraj-Ahmedabad service will operate during this period using A320neo aircraft. The outbound flight departs Prayagraj at 0605 hours, reaching Ahmedabad at 0825 hours. The return service departs Ahmedabad at 1330 hours, landing in Prayagraj at 1505 hours.
Bengaluru receives double daily connections with Prayagraj via A320neo aircraft. The first flight departs Bengaluru at 0320 hours, arriving at 0550 hours. The return service leaves Prayagraj at 0650 hours, reaching Bengaluru at 0920 hours.
Mumbai-Prayagraj services increase to 21 weekly flights. Starting February 15, flights operate from Prayagraj at 1710 hours and Mumbai at 1410 hours. Additional services begin February 16, with Mumbai departures at 0400 hours and Prayagraj departures at 2215 hours, utilizing A320neo aircraft.
Hyderabad gains daily connections to Prayagraj using A320neo aircraft. One service operates four times weekly, departing Hyderabad at 1905 hours and returning at 2200 hours. A daily service departs Prayagraj at 1545 hours with Hyderabad departure at 1915 hours.
The Kolkata-Prayagraj route will operate daily with A319 aircraft, subject to schedule confirmation. Flights depart Kolkata at 2025 hours and return from Prayagraj at 2240 hours.
