PARIS – A runaway dog named Amalka caused a rare disruption at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), leading to the closure of two runways during a search operation on 26th November. The search operation lasted for nine days.
Owned by an Austrian tourist traveling with Air France (AF) from Vienna, Amalka, an emotional support dog escaped from her carrier during unloading on 19th November.
The incident led to a large-scale search across the second busiest European airport, involving both airport staff and police. Posters were put up to alert workers, while search operations extended into the night with her owner, Míša, actively participating.
Air France provided full support by covering all of Míša’s hotel stay near the airport throughout the search operation.
Closure of Two Runways
On 26th November, airport police deployed a drone to locate Amalka, requiring the temporary closure of two runways at CDG. The operation was carefully scheduled during off-peak hours to minimize disruptions at the airport.
Despite these efforts, the pet evaded capture for days, with searchers even considering using a tranquilizer to secure her.
Reunion with the Owner
On 28th November, Amalka was eventually found in a park in Dammartin-en-Goële, a town near the airport. A video shared on the internet captured the heartwarming reunion, showing the dog wagging her tail as her relieved owner hugged her tightly.
Míša, who relies on Amalka for emotional support due to ADHD, expressed her gratitude for the extensive efforts to find her dog. “In situations like this, she’s usually there for me,” she told Le Parisien.
“After several days of intense searches, we are delighted to confirm that Amalka has been found and returned to her owner. Both will be able to travel to their final destination soon.”
