GURUGRAM- As we reported in May 2024, IndiGo Airlines (6E) is in talks with authority Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) to launch non-stop flights. It looks like it’s coming to reality.
The source confirmed with Hindu Businessline that IndiGo will soon launch flights between India and Seychelles.
IndiGo New International Flights
The airline has obtained regulatory permissions to start services to Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) on the island of Mahé.
Additionally, IndiGo is expected to add new destinations across Asia, including Kyrgyzstan, Cambodia, and Laos. The airline also plans to increase flight frequency on existing international routes and connect Tier-I cities to overseas destinations.
The Gurugram-based carrier also postponed the launch of its new flight between Pune (PNQ) and Bangkok (BKK), Thailand from Oct 27 to Nov 22.
The airline operates international routes mostly with Airbus A321neos. But its do deploy A320neos for several short international flights.
During the recent second-quarter results, IndiGo’s management highlighted the strong demand for international travel and the airline’s plans to expand its international operations. The airline aims to operate to over 40 international destinations by the end of FY25, up from the current 30 overseas destinations.
If we talk about the latest international announcement, IndiGo has scheduled the launch of its second overseas flight from Pune (PNQ) to Dubai (DXB), starting on November 22, 2024, and daily direct services between Bengaluru (BLR) and Langkawi (LGK), Malaysia, from December 16.
Decade Long Partnership
In 2015, Seychelles and India signed an Air Services Agreement, enabling airline operations between the two countries.
Currently, Air Seychelles (HM) operates a weekly direct flight to Mumbai (BOM), down from five weekly flights prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the reduced frequency, Indian visitors to Seychelles increased by over 50% from 2022 to 2023.
India, now the world’s fifth-largest economy, has emerged as a favored destination for Seychellois travelers seeking educational and professional development opportunities. Reciprocally, India has become a hub for medical tourism for Seychelles.
