BENGALURU- India’s largest private regional carrier, Star Air (S5), which is also a part of the Sanjay Ghodawat Group (SGG), has announced a strategic fleet expansion plan to reach a total of 25 aircraft within the next 36 months (i.e. by 2027).
This expansion includes two new Embraer E175 aircraft scheduled for induction in FY25, with four more to follow in FY26.
Star Air Embraer Fleet Plans
The airline, currently operating nine aircraft—four of them are Embraer E175s and the remaining five are Embraer E145s—aims to boost connectivity in underserved regions, reinforcing India’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) initiative and its own “Connecting Real India” mission.
With the addition of new E175s, Star Air will enhance its operational efficiency and capacity across existing and new routes, specifically targeting Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
The E175 aircraft, known for fuel efficiency and passenger comfort, align well with Star Air’s commitment to delivering efficient, comfortable travel.
The airline is the sole operator of the Embraer fleet for scheduled operations in India. Recently we shared an update that IndiGo is looking to place a new order for a regional jet and it might be an Embraer aircraft.
Recently, Star Air expanded its regional network by launching new non-stop flights that will be operated four times a week connecting Kolhapur (KLH) and Ahmedabad (AMD), from October 28, 2024.
Well, More and more regional airlines are starting their operations or are in a phase of getting AOCs to start operations in India. So the future of regional carriers looks promising and it’s growing rapidly. Star Air is leading the growth and making sure to stay ahead of its competition with new and modern aircraft.
CEO Remarks
Capt. Simran S Tiwana, CEO of Star Air, highlighted the airline’s growth strategy: “The addition of these new Embraer E175 aircraft marks a pivotal step in our journey. As we expand our fleet to 25 aircraft, we reaffirm our commitment to reaching more underserved markets and setting new standards in air travel. Each milestone in this expansion brings us closer to connecting more of Real India, offering fast, efficient, and high-quality flying experiences for our passengers.”
Since launching in 2019, Star Air has transported over 1.3 million passengers across 21 destinations, providing accessible, affordable air travel across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Punjab, Goa, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
With this fleet expansion, Star Air is on track to meet rising demand and establish new benchmarks in regional connectivity. Star Air has been operating safely and smoothly for the last 5-6 years.
