LONDON- Japanese legacy carrier, Japan Airlines (JL) introduced its advanced Airbus A350-1000 aircraft today (October 24, 2024) on the London Heathrow (LHR) to Tokyo Haneda (HND) route, marking the aircraft’s European debut.
The new aircraft delivers enhanced passenger comfort through a meticulously designed four-class cabin configuration.
Japan Airlines A350 on Tokyo-London
The A350-1000 significantly reduces environmental impact, cutting CO2 emissions by up to 25% compared to previous international aircraft in JAL’s fleet. This advancement aligns with growing demands for sustainable air travel while maintaining premium service standards.
The airline deploys the A350-1000 on alternate days for flights JL044 and JL043. Boeing 777-300ER aircraft continue to serve the route on days when the A350-1000 is not operating.
Cabin Features on New A350-1000
The First Class cabin features six private suites equipped with sliding doors and convertible sofas that transform into single or double beds. Each suite integrates headrest speakers and a 43-inch 4K monitor, delivering theater-quality entertainment at 40,000 feet.
The Business Class section marks a significant advancement with 54 private suites, each secured by sliding doors. These suites incorporate pressure-dispersing cushions and fully reclining seats with elevated headrests, complemented by 24-inch entertainment screens for optimal viewing angles.
Premium Economy Class accommodates 24 passengers with enhanced privacy partitions and FIXBACK seating technology. The seats feature automatic horizontal legrests and expanded 16-inch 4K monitors, offering 1.3 times more screen real estate than previous models.
The Economy Class configuration hosts 155 seats, each pre-angled for immediate comfort upon boarding. Passengers enjoy access to 13-inch 4K screens, the largest in JAL’s economy offering, enhanced with Bluetooth connectivity for personal audio devices.
Meals and Entertainment
Japan Airlines implements comprehensive service upgrades on its A350-1000 fleet, focusing on sustainable dining and digital connectivity. The airline introduces expanded vegan and vegetarian menu options, utilizing non-petroleum-based tableware to reduce environmental impact.
The onboard entertainment system, developed by Panasonic Avionics Corporation, delivers enhanced connectivity options from October 1, 2024. First and business-class passengers receive unlimited complimentary Wi-Fi access, while Premium Economy and Economy travelers enjoy one hour of free service.
All cabin classes feature 4K monitors with Bluetooth connectivity. The JAL App integration enables passengers to create personalized entertainment playlists, streamlining the inflight experience across all routes.
The A350-1000 currently serves twice-daily flights between New York JFK and Tokyo Haneda on routes JL003/004 and JL005/006. The aircraft also operates daily service between Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) and Tokyo Haneda on route JL011/012.
Japan Airlines advances its fleet modernization strategy by replacing Boeing 777-300ERs with A350-1000s. The airline has received six of thirteen ordered A350-1000 aircraft, as of October 2024.
