ABU DHABI- UAE’s flag carrier, Etihad Airways (EY) will upgrade its European routes to daily services for both Dusseldorf (DUS) and Copenhagen (CPH) starting October 1, 2025.
The expansion strengthens the airline’s connectivity between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Europe.
Etihad More Flights to Dusseldorf, Copenhagen
The Dusseldorf route will increase by four weekly flights, transforming from a seasonal to a year-round service.
Copenhagen’s schedule will gain three additional weekly flights, elevating the current four-times-weekly operation to daily service.
The airline will use Airbus A321LR to serve this route with additional flights.
Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, emphasized the strategic importance of these daily flights in strengthening Abu Dhabi’s connections to key European destinations. The enhanced schedule aims to provide improved flexibility and connection options across Etihad’s global network.
The frequency increase represents Etihad’s largest European network expansion in recent years. This development positions Abu Dhabi as a stronger connecting hub between Europe, Asia, and Australia.
The airline’s commitment to maintaining consistent year-round operations marks a significant shift in its European market strategy.
European Cities
Etihad Airways’ network expansion links Abu Dhabi to two distinctive European destinations. Dusseldorf showcases Germany’s modern business hub, combining the fashion industry and architectural innovation at Media Harbour with traditional German culture in its historic Altstadt district.
Copenhagen offers visitors access to Denmark’s premier cultural attractions, from the historic Nyhavn waterfront to Tivoli Gardens amusement park. The city’s Michelin-starred restaurants establish it as a global culinary destination.
The enhanced flight schedules support growing business and tourism demands between these European cities and Abu Dhabi. Dusseldorf’s position as a fashion and media center complements Abu Dhabi’s expanding creative industries.
Copenhagen’s design heritage and sustainable urban development align with Abu Dhabi’s cultural and environmental initiatives. The daily flights facilitate stronger commercial partnerships and cultural exchange between these regions.
Major Expansion Plans
The expansion follows previously announced two European flights to Warsaw (WAW) and Prague (PRG) on June 2, 2025.
The airline is set to reveal 11 new destinations on November 25, with an additional 20 cities to be announced in January or February 2025.
Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer Arik De on LinkedIn said, “The world’s busiest network planning team is at it again :). Announcing daily flights to Copenhagen 🇩🇰 and Düsseldorf 🇩🇪 from October 2025.”
De projects Etihad will surpass its 2017 size next year, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s recovery and expansion strategy. This growth comes after nearly three years of operational revamping, initiated by a major management change.
Etihad Airways plans to target secondary cities in Europe and Asia as part of its network expansion.
