DUBAI- The Emirates (EK) Airlines Airbus A380 returned triumphantly to Vienna (VIE), Austria, today, ending a nearly four-year hiatus and transporting over 400 passengers to the Austrian capital.
Emirates has now reclaimed its unique status as the sole airline operating the double-decker aircraft at Vienna International Airport, marking a notable milestone in the longstanding partnership between the airline and the airport.
Emirates A380 Returns to Austria
The iconic A380 initially graced Austrian soil in 2014 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Emirates’ operations in Austria, followed by scheduled A380 service in 2016 on the Dubai-Vienna route.
Elisabeth Zauner, Country Manager Emirates Austria, expressed delight at reinstating the A380 on the Vienna-Dubai route, emphasizing the unparalleled experience it offers passengers.
Recognized as Emirates’ flagship aircraft and a global favorite among travelers, the return of the double-decker signifies a significant milestone for Emirates’ operations in Austria and underscores the importance of the Austrian market in the airline’s global route network.
Julian Jäger, Co-CEO of Vienna Airport, expresses excitement about the resurgence of the Emirates A380: “I am thrilled to welcome back the Emirates A380 into regular service at Vienna. As the world’s largest passenger aircraft, it serves as a highlight for all travelers and significantly enriches Vienna Airport. The accompanying boost in capacity signifies the strengthening of connections to the Near and Middle East, contributing positively to tourism to and from Austria.”
20% Increase in Capacity
Currently holding the title of the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the A380 stands as the flagship of the Emirates fleet.
With over 90 A380s operating on Emirates’ global route network, including popular destinations like Bangkok, Mauritius, Denpasar/Bali, and Sydney, the three-class A380 configuration offers 14 seats in First Class, 76 in Business Class, and 429 in Economy Class, providing a total seat capacity of 519 passengers.
This substantial increase in capacity on flights between Dubai and Vienna, amounting to nearly 20%, supports tourism flow and broadens travel options for Emirates’ customers connecting from the airline’s global network to Austria.
