MUMBAI- On Tuesday morning (Feb 13, 2024), an IndiGo Airlines (6E) flight traveling from Chennai (MAA) to Mumbai (BOM) encountered a bomb threat.
The pilots of IndiGo flight 6E5188, which was less than 40 kilometers away from its Mumbai destination, alerted the air traffic control about a bomb threat message discovered in one of the aircraft lavatories, as per a source. The Airbus A321neo aircraft safely landed at 8:47 am.
IndiGo Bomb Threat
In response to the specific alert, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad took charge of the situation, thoroughly examining the aircraft. The source further stated that no bomb was found on board.
The largest airline in India, IndiGo, in an official statement, reported that flight 6E 5188, which was flying from Chennai to Mumbai, received a bomb threat during landing in Mumbai.
The airline stated, “All necessary protocols were followed, and the aircraft was taken to a remote bay following the guidelines set by airport security agencies. After completing all security checks, the aircraft will be brought back to the terminal area.”
A senior official from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) mentioned that the procedures related to a bomb threat alert have been set in motion.

On Friday (Jan 26, 2024), a Lucknow-bound IndiGo flight faced delays at Mumbai Airport when a passenger asserted the presence of a bomb under his seat.
The incident, occurring late on January 26, unfolded during heightened security measures for Republic Day celebrations. Mumbai police reported the occurrence on Indigo flight number 6E5264 from Mumbai (BOM) to Lucknow (LKO).
Following the passenger’s bomb claim, authorities conducted a comprehensive inspection of the aircraft. Mumbai Police swiftly dispatched a team to the scene after being notified of the incident.
Mumbai police apprehended the 27-year-old passenger, and charges were levied against him under sections 506(2) and 505(1)(B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
