Governor’s Harbour Airport has recently undergone expansions and upgrades to both the Departures and Arrivals Terminals, along with enhancements to the fire station.
Further, this infrastructural development aligns with the government’s commitment to upgrading island airports as part of the Family Islands Renaissance Initiative, as outlined in The National Aviation Strategic Plan.
“We are thrilled to commemorate the initiation of our sixth destination in The Bahamas, Governor’s Harbour, reinforcing our dedication to this pristine paradise. This newly established route signifies the next stride in expanding American’s footprint in the Caribbean and Atlantic, where we proudly stand as the largest U.S. airline,” stated José María Giraldo, American Airlines Managing Director of Operations for Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America.
“With the addition of this new destination, we will now provide up to 30 peak-day flights to The Bahamas, playing a crucial role in supporting the country’s travel and tourism industry.”
The commencement of the first flight was commemorated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held in both Miami and Governor’s Harbour.
The occasion saw the presence of prominent government officials and executives from the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, including Hon. Clay Sweeting, Minister of Works and Family Island Affairs, and Dr. Kenneth Romer, Deputy Director General, MOTIA.
As part of the ceremony, American Airlines executives were presented with a unique ceremonial gift symbolizing the enduring relationship with The Islands of The Bahamas.
