MUMBAI- On Friday (Jan 26, 2024), a Lucknow-bound IndiGo Airlines (6E) flight faced delays at Mumbai Airport (BOM) when a passenger asserted the presence of a bomb under his seat.
The incident, occurring late on January 26, unfolded during heightened security measures for Republic Day celebrations. Mumbai police reported the occurrence on Indigo flight number 6E5264 from Mumbai (BOM) to Lucknow (LKO).
IndiGo Gets Bomb Hoax at Mumbai
Following the passenger’s bomb claim, authorities conducted a comprehensive inspection of the aircraft. Mumbai Police swiftly dispatched a team to the scene after being notified of the incident.
Mumbai police apprehended the 27-year-old passenger, and charges were levied against him under sections 506(2) and 505(1)(B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Authorities are currently investigating the motives behind his actions.

On Wednesday, a resident of Noida raised a false alarm about a bomb threat to an airline office at Darbhanga airport, aiming to deliberately delay a flight to Delhi due to his own tardiness.
The SpiceJet (SG) aircraft safely landed in Delhi at 6:00 PM and was subsequently relocated to an isolation bay for further investigation.
The airline spokesperson stated, “A call was received at the SpiceJet reservation office regarding a bomb in the aircraft operating flight SG8946 from Darbhanga to Delhi. The flight landed safely at Delhi airport at 6 pm, and the aircraft was moved to an isolated bay.”
“As soon as we received the call, we promptly informed the relevant security officials. Upon inspecting the flight, no evidence of a threat was found. We handled the situation in accordance with airport security protocols,” added the airline spokesperson.
The authorities have filed charges against the accused under the provisions of sections 506(2) and 507 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
