KUALA LUMPUR- In recent weeks, AirAsia (AK) has submitted updates to its network in India, outlining plans to initiate new flights to Ahmedabad (AMD) and Jaipur (JAI), in the second quarter of 2024.

AirAsia India Routes
AirAsia has unveiled a new addition to its expanding network, introducing a fresh route from Kuala Lumpur to India’s inaugural UNESCO World Heritage City, Ahmedabad.
Scheduled to commence on 1 May 2024, this new route signifies AirAsia’s rapid expansion in connectivity to India, marking its eleventh route to the country and the third new route in 2024 alone.
Kuala Lumpur to Ahmedabad
Commencing from May 1, 2024, AirAsia will introduce a new four-times-weekly Airbus A320 service from Kuala Lumpur to Ahmedabad:
- Flight AK055 will depart Kuala Lumpur at 20:00 and arrive in Ahmedabad at 22:40 (local time) on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
- Flight AK054 will depart Ahmedabad at 23:15 and arrive in Kuala Lumpur at 07:15 (local time) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Additionally, this marks AirAsia’s initial venture into the state of Gujarat from Malaysia, solidifying its presence in South Asia.
Also recognized as Amdavad, Ahmedabad is a sprawling city renowned for hosting one of India’s largest cotton textile hubs, serene lakes, quaint temples, centuries-old mosques, and more.
History enthusiasts are drawn to the city’s ancient architecture, which dates back to the 15th century during the reign of Sultan Ahmad Shah.
Ahmedabad boasts numerous tourist attractions, including some of the world’s finest street food, and being a hub for the country’s highly sought-after jewelry markets.
Kuala Lumpur to Jaipur
Furthermore, starting April 21, 2024, AirAsia will initiate a new four-times-weekly A320neo service from Kuala Lumpur to Jaipur:
- Flight AK019 will depart Kuala Lumpur at 18:55, arriving in Jaipur at 21:35 (local time) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
- Flight AK018 will depart Jaipur at 22:10, arriving in Kuala Lumpur at 06:05 (local time) on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

Bo Lingam, the Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, expressed excitement about the airline’s expansion into India, particularly the launch of a new route to Ahmedabad.

Bo Lingam also reflected on AirAsia’s initial flight to India in 2008, emphasizing the airline’s vision and mission to promote accessible connectivity between the two nations.
Acknowledging the untapped tourism potential in both Malaysia and India, he emphasized AirAsia’s dedication to expanding its network to encourage more people to explore the unexplored gems of India at affordable prices.
AirAsia operates an extensive network of routes directly from Kuala Lumpur to various Indian cities, including Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Kochi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata, through its short-haul airline, AirAsia Malaysia (flight code AK). Additionally, flights to New Delhi and Amritsar are offered via the medium-haul affiliate airline, AirAsia X (flight code D7).
Bo Lingam also mentioned upcoming flights to Thiruvananthapuram in February 2024, Jaipur in April, and Ahmedabad in May. Furthermore, AirAsia provides affordable and convenient Fly-Thru options, allowing guests traveling from India to connect through Kuala Lumpur to access AirAsia’s extensive network of over 130 destinations in 22 countries.
Strengthening Connectivity to India
AirAsia has made adjustments to its services in India for the upcoming Northern Summer 2024 season, effective from March 31, 2024:
- The frequency of the Kuala Lumpur to Kochi route will be maintained at 17 weekly services, without the previously planned increase to 21 weekly.
- The frequency of the Kuala Lumpur to Tiruchirappalli route will be maintained at 12 weekly services, without the previously planned increase to 17 weekly.
Additionally, AirAsia (AK) continues to operate the following services to India:
- Kuala Lumpur to Bangalore: 4 weekly services
- Kuala Lumpur to Chennai: 14 weekly services
- Kuala Lumpur to Hyderabad: 8 weekly services
- Kuala Lumpur to Kolkata: 7 weekly services
- Kuala Lumpur to Thiruvananthapuram: 4 weekly services
Furthermore, the following services are operated by AirAsia X (D7):
- Kuala Lumpur to Amritsar: 4 weekly services
- Kuala Lumpur to Delhi: 4 weekly services
