MUMBAI- Flag carrier Uganda Airlines (UR) has inaugurated a direct route from Entebbe (EBB) to Mumbai (BOM), India, marking the first time in four decades.
The direct flight between Entebbe and Mumbai becomes the airline’s second international route, following the one to Dubai, reports Monitor Uganda.
Uganda Entebbe to Mumbai Flights
During the launch event in Kampala on Friday, Ms. Jennifer Bamuturaki, the Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Airlines, hailed this development as a significant achievement for the nation.
She emphasized the strong bond between Uganda and India and expressed enthusiasm about the prospects the Mumbai route offers.
“We are excited about India because of its importance in the bilateral relations between Uganda and India, spanning business trade, culture, and tourism. We are optimistic about this route, particularly for cargo operations, tourism, and value addition. We look forward to having dinner in Entebbe and breakfast in India.”

Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, is India’s largest commercial city and ranks as the sixth most populous metropolitan area globally, with approximately 23 million inhabitants.
The High Commissioner of India to Uganda, Upender Singh Rawat, also attended the launch and described it as a historic moment.
He highlighted the substantial benefits of the new route, especially for the more than 1,200 Ugandan students studying in various Indian universities, as travel time will be halved from 12 to 6 hours.
Adedayo Olawuyi, Uganda Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer, revealed that the maiden Entebbe-Mumbai flight is scheduled for October 7. The airline plans to operate three flights per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
According to Andrew Kintu, the Manager for Transaction Advisory Services at Grant Thornton Uganda, the direct route will unlock tourism and trade and strengthen foreign direct investment opportunities for Uganda.
Additionally, it will facilitate closer connections between Ugandan and Indian families, fostering appreciation for cultural differences and events.
