A passenger’s phone caught fire mid-flight on IndiGo ‘s Dibrugarh-Delhi flight on Thursday, but the cabin crew extinguished it with a fire extinguisher, according to DGCA officials.
According to officials with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), no passengers or cabin crew members were injured as a result of the event.
The flight 6E 2037 was flying from Dibrugarh to Delhi when a cabin crew member noticed sparks and smoke coming from a passenger's phone, according to officials.
According to them, the cabin crew member used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.
They said the plane landed safely at the Delhi airport around 12.45 p.m. on Thursday.
IndiGo claimed in a statement,
“On aircraft 6E 2037 from Dibrugarh to Delhi, a mobile device battery overheated unusually.
The staff has been educated to deal with all types of hazardous situations, and they handled the problem fast. There were no injuries to passengers or property on board.”
