When we see any aerospace and Aviation related things we are always fascinated by the way it works and one of that is about why Pilots keep landing lights on during the day time ?
Isn’t there is enough light ? Why to waste so much of electrical power ? All this will be answered Today !!
There are multiple reasons for keeping Landing lights on During the day some are shared here and some are in our video so do read this and watch our video for Complete reasons.
So here’s a few reasons of keeping lights on during day :-
No. 1) Mentioned in pilots Checklist
During Takeoff and landing it’s mandatory for Pilot to keep the landing lights ON, No matter whether it’s day or night.
No. 2) To prevent Bird strikes
According to the Accident and Incidents data by World aviation accident investigation agency the maximum around 50% of Accident occur during Approach and landing because it’s crucial phase of flight where pilots needs to land with critical parameters and one of that is Bird strikes and it’s very common during Takeoff and landing and that’s why to Divert birds and to divert them from the takeoff or landing path it’s compulsory to keep landing lights ON during such critical phase.
No. 3) Improves the Runway Visibility
Its crucial that pilot is able to see what is ahead of him/her or Must see the runway pavement to align properly with centre line, Nowadays with modern equipments and ILS/MLS it’s easier but still Pilot must see the object clearly and to do it in Foggy weather it’s difficult job so if landing lights are ON then it’s Visibility increases and they can see clearly.
This were some reasons why Pilots keep landing lights ON During Day and During takeoff and landing so for further details check out our video on it
