DUBAI- Emirates (EK), the world’s largest international airline, has revealed plans to enhance its operations in Australia.
The airline will upgrade its second daily flight, EK430/431, between Dubai (DXB) and Brisbane (BNE) to an A380, commencing on 1 October. Additionally, Emirates will introduce a second daily service between Dubai and Perth (PER), operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, starting from 1 December.
Emirates Australia Flights
Commencing 1 October, Emirates’ second A380 flight, EK430, bound for Brisbane, will depart Dubai at 02:30, reaching Brisbane at 22:20. The return flight, EK431, will depart Brisbane at 01:55, arriving in Dubai at 10:05. All times are local.
An Emirates Boeing 777-300ER will serve as the supplementary flight to Perth. Starting from 1 December, Emirates flight EK424 will depart Dubai at 09:15, reaching Perth at 00:05 the following day. Emirates’ return flight, EK425, will depart Perth at 06:00 and arrive in Dubai at 13:10. All times are local.
By enhancing its A380 operations to Brisbane and reintroducing a second daily service to Perth, Emirates will augment its weekly capacity to Australia by an extra 6,900 seats, catering to the surging demand for international travel via Dubai and connecting to the airline’s expansive network of over 140 destinations worldwide.
This expanded capacity not only facilitates convenient air connectivity for the transportation of exports and imports but also provides substantial support to Australian businesses and specialized industries.
The second daily flight between Dubai and Perth will enhance connectivity to Emirates’ gateways in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, offering more seamless and convenient travel options for passengers.
Additionally, travelers flying from Brisbane to popular destinations like the UK, Italy, France, Turkey, Pakistan, and Egypt will benefit from increased seat capacity provided by the airline’s double daily A380 services.
Help with Aviation Fund
Commencing in June 2023, the Queensland government’s Attracting Aviation Investment Fund played a pivotal role in making Emirates’ second Brisbane service (EK430/431) on the Boeing 777-300ER possible.
This additional flight was anticipated to bring in 129,210 extra seats, including an estimated 38,610 visitors to Queensland, resulting in an annual overnight visitor expenditure of $75 million.
Thanks to this fund, Emirates can now upgrade this service to the A380, bringing more travel and business opportunities to Queensland.
Executive Insights
Barry Brown, Divisional Vice President Australasia at Emirates, expressed satisfaction with the increased offerings, stating,
“We are delighted to provide more options and opportunities for Australians traveling from Brisbane and Perth through the expansion of our operations. This underscores the significance of both gateways for tourism and trade, highlighting Emirates’ dedication to ensuring convenient schedules and seamless connections to and through Dubai. Whether benefiting from streamlined afternoon connections to a multitude of European destinations on the second Perth flight or enjoying a complete A380 experience to and from Brisbane, connecting to nearly 50 cities served by our flagship, we are facilitating access to diverse opportunities in business, leisure, culture, and beyond.”
“The expansion also reflects our commitment to enhancing global connectivity to our Australian gateways and supporting growth opportunities in tourism and trade.”
Gert-Jan de Graaff, Brisbane Airport Chief Executive Officer, remarked,
“The A380 will enable an additional 100,000 passengers per year to travel between Queensland and Europe, making it Brisbane’s second busiest international destination. In its 21st year of service to Brisbane, Emirates stands out as the primary carrier facilitating travel to and from Europe.
“Crucially, Emirates distinguishes itself as the leading airline in over-the-bay operations, minimizing noise impacts on the local community. Over two-thirds of all overnight Emirates flights have traversed Moreton Bay from July to December 2023. We commend Emirates for this performance and anticipate ongoing collaboration across all airlines.”
John Carey, Acting Tourism Minister for the Western Australian Government, expressed,
“Today’s announcement marks another significant stride in restoring WA’s aviation capabilities and further solidifies Perth’s global standing as the Western Gateway to Australia. Securing additional direct aviation services is crucial for attracting more travelers to our state, infusing visitor expenditure into our economy, and fostering job creation in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
“We take pride in having reinstated or secured new non-stop flights to 19 global cities since the reopening of borders, and this announcement is yet another vote of confidence in Western Australia as a tourism destination.”
Scott Woodward, Chief Operating Officer of Perth Airport, stated,
“The reintroduction of Emirates’ second daily service is excellent news as it brings substantial capacity to the Perth market. Emirates is a crucial airline partner for Western Australia, and this additional daily service contributes an impressive 250,000 seats annually on this highly sought-after route.
“Not only does the new service offer more choices for business and leisure travel, but the increased capacity will attract many more international visitors to Western Australia. The reinstatement of this second daily service underscores Emirates’ commitment and confidence in the Western Australian market, and we will collaborate with the airline to ensure the success of this additional service alongside its existing one.”
