WASHINGTON-<\/strong> Boeing’s reputation suffered another devastating blow on June 12, 2025, when Air India (AI)<\/a> Flight 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner<\/a>, crashed shortly after takeoff in Ahmedabad, India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft plummeted into a densely populated neighbourhood in the west-central Indian city, which houses nearly eight million residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India 787 Crash<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Recovery teams retrieved 204 bodies from the crash site by Thursday evening local time, though local news sources reported 242 fatalities with one survivor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plane’s wreckage struck the dining area of B.J. Medical College, killing 5 medical students and injuring approximately 50 others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigators have not determined the crash’s cause, leaving questions about pilot error, mechanical failure, or other factors unanswered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boeing Response<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg<\/a> issued condolences to the victims’ families and affected Ahmedabad <\/a>residents. The executive confirmed discussions with Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran<\/a>, offering full company support for the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boeing deferred information requests to India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau<\/strong>, following United Nations International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)<\/a> protocol Annexure 13<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Aviation Safety Network database indicates this marks the first reported crash of the Dreamliner<\/strong> since its 2011 debut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leaked Video<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A 2014 hidden-camera video from Boeing’s Charleston, South Carolina assembly plant revealed troubling worker attitudes about Dreamliner safety. Al Jazeera published the footage, showing an undercover investigation at the facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The video captured conversations with 15 Dreamliner assembly workers, with 10 stating they would not fly on aircraft<\/strong> they were building. One worker expressed stark concerns about production quality, citing substandard workmanship at the facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
