The UK Department for Business and Trade released a list of over 500 companies that underpaid workers, placing British Airways as the seventh worst offender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to official data, the airline failed to pay a total of \u00a3231,270 in legally required wages<\/a> to 2,165 members of its cabin crew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This wage violation primarily affected the airline\u2019s \u2018Mixed Fleet\u2019 cabin crew, introduced after a labor dispute with senior \u2018legacy\u2019 staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new group was promised competitive wages, but often received significantly less. In 2017, full-time employees earned just \u00a318,640 annually, barely above the legal minimum, and in some cases as low as \u00a316,000, according to union reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The situation was serious enough to prompt a 73-day strike by the Unite union, which condemned the working conditions and alleged \u201cpoverty pay.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Employment Rights Minister Justin Madders strongly criticized employers like British Airways, stating, \u201cThere is no excuse for employers to undercut their workers.\u201d He emphasized the government\u2019s goal of ensuring fair pay across all industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
