ULWE-<\/strong> IndiGo Airlines (6E)<\/a> is set to become the first airline to operate commercial flights from Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). The airline will launch with 18 daily departures, connecting the new hub to over 15 cities from Day One.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airport, located near Mumbai (BOM), is developed by Adani Group and is designed to become a major aviation gateway. IndiGo\u2019s operations will scale aggressively over the next 18 months, including international flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo Navi Mumbai Airport Ops<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo Airlines has announced the start of scheduled operations from the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA)<\/a>, becoming the launch carrier at the greenfield airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline plans to begin with 18 daily departures\u2014equivalent to 36 Air Traffic Movements (ATMs)\u2014serving over 15 domestic destinations. This move positions NMIA as a significant alternative to Mumbai’s existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By November 2025, IndiGo aims to increase its daily departures to 79 (158 ATMs), including 14 international routes. Further expansion is planned, with over 100 daily departures <\/strong>by March 2026 and 140 daily departures (280 ATMs) by November 2026, of which 30 will be international.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This strategy reflects IndiGo\u2019s commitment to strengthening its market dominance and enhancing connectivity across the Indian subcontinent and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The launch is the result of a strategic collaboration between IndiGo and Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. (AAHL), India\u2019s largest private airport operator under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, emphasized that this partnership supports India\u2019s vision of becoming the third-largest aviation market globally by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Elbers, the readiness of both infrastructure and operations showcases the airline\u2019s dedication to providing seamless and affordable travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arun Bansal, CEO of AAHL, highlighted NMIA\u2019s role as a future domestic and international transit hub, enhancing both regional and global travel convenience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Infrastructure Designed for Global Reach<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

NMIA is a $2.1 billion infrastructure project designed to accommodate Mumbai\u2019s growing aviation demands. Managed by the Adani Group, it complements the existing Mumbai Airport (BOM), also under Adani\u2019s control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new facility aims to reduce congestion and support India\u2019s ambitions for developing an international transit hub akin to those in Singapore, London, or Dubai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airport will open with a single terminal capable of handling 20 million passengers annually. Depending on passenger growth, the capacity could scale up to 90 million annually over the next decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its architecture features a lotus-shaped terminal symbolizing India\u2019s national flower, representing cultural heritage and modern infrastructure fusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several airlines have been briefed to prepare for phased transitions of their domestic operations between April and June 2025. NMIA is expected to begin international services by August 2025. This phased approach ensures smooth operational integration and passenger service continuity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
