GURUGRAM-<\/strong> IndiGo Airlines (6E) <\/a>will distribute a 5% salary bonus<\/strong> to its pilots and cabin crew after reporting a record-breaking Q4 profit of \u20b93,067 crore<\/strong> for FY2024\u201325. The bonus reflects appreciation for the crew\u2019s role in the airline\u2019s post-pandemic recovery and strategic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This payout follows last year\u2019s similar 5% bonus and coincides with IndiGo\u2019s robust financial performance at its primary hub, Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), New Delhi.<\/a> The announcement was made after IndiGo achieved the highest customer volume and profit ever in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo Pilots and Crew Bonus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In an internal communication to staff, IndiGo\u2019s Group Chief Human Resources Officer, Sukhjit Pasricha, confirmed the bonus distribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He acknowledged the crew\u2019s collective effort in helping the airline reach new operational and financial heights, stating,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crew bonus will be disbursed at its maximum, that is, 5% of your salary for FY24\u201325.\u201d<\/p>IndiGo\u2019s Group Chief Human Resources Officer, Sukhjit Pasricha<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

This marks the second consecutive year IndiGo has awarded a 5% bonus to its flying staff. For non-flying employees, the airline will honor full bonuses as per contract agreements, but has not announced an additional ex-gratia payment for FY2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bonus initiative comes in recognition of the airline\u2019s strategic execution and resilience. Pasricha highlighted that FY2024 marked a return to profitability and net-worth positivity following the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q4 Financial Highlights<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo\u2019s Q4 net profit rose 62% year-over-year<\/strong> to \u20b93,067 crore, driven by increased aircraft availability, robust passenger traffic, and lower fuel prices. Strategic scheduling during high-demand events, such as the Maha Kumbh Mela, helped boost passenger load factors and yields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline continues to optimize its fleet by reducing the number of grounded aircraft and monitoring demand to minimize reliance on expensive wet leases. IndiGo has made significant strides in operational efficiency, enhancing its financial stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a full-year basis, the airline posted a net profit of \u20b97,258 crore, though this represented an 11.2% decline from the previous year due to foreign exchange fluctuations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CEO Pieter Elbers called it the strongest Q4 in IndiGo\u2019s history, with 31.9 million passengers served during the quarter alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

$800 Million Stake Sell<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo co-founder Rakesh Gangwal is set to offload a portion of his remaining stake in the low-cost carrier through a significant block deal valued at approximately $803 million.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This stake sale will be conducted at a discounted floor price of \u20b95,175 per share, nearly 4.5% lower than IndiGo\u2019s closing stock price of \u20b95,420 on the NSE. The transaction involves up to a 3.4% stake in IndiGo, the largest airline in India by market share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rakesh Gangwal, who co-founded IndiGo in 2006 with Rahul Bhatia, continues to reduce his ownership in the carrier. The latest stake sale, executed via a block deal, will further cut his family\u2019s combined stake from the current 13.5%<\/strong>. This includes shares held under the Chinkerpoo Family Trust<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gangwal stepped down from IndiGo\u2019s board in February 2022<\/strong>, citing his intention to fully exit the airline over five years. At the time, the Gangwal family held a 36.6% stake<\/strong> in the airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This marks the third major stake reduction following significant sales in March 2024<\/strong> and August 2024<\/strong>, where shares worth over $800 million and $1.12 billion<\/strong> were sold, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investment banks Goldman Sachs<\/strong>, JP Morgan<\/strong>, and Morgan Stanley<\/strong> are advising the family on the latest sale, demonstrating continued institutional interest in IndiGo\u2019s stock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current stake sale does not appear to affect investor sentiment adversely. Shares of InterGlobe Aviation have surged by nearly 20% since January 2025<\/strong>, signaling market confidence in the airline\u2019s operational performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
