FARO-<\/strong> United Airlines (UA)<\/a> has officially launched a new international route connecting Faro, Portugal (FAO)<\/strong> and Newark (EWR)<\/strong>, marking the first-ever direct link between the Algarve region and the United States. The inaugural flight took place on May 17, 2025, introducing four weekly seasonal services operated by the American carrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new route by United Airlines (UA) is part of its largest international expansion to date. Operated with a Boeing 757-200, this connection not only supports growing tourism between the U.S. and Portugal but also reinforces Faro\u2019s global connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United Newark to Faro Flight<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

United Airlines’ new nonstop route from Faro (FAO) to Newark (EWR) represents a strategic move in enhancing transatlantic accessibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The service runs four times weekly during the summer season, with flights departing Faro on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 11:40 AM (local time), arriving in New York at approximately 3:00 PM (local time).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The return flight from Newark to Faro operates on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9:35 PM, landing the following day at around 9:50 AM in Faro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This new route utilizes Boeing 757-200 aircraft<\/a>, offering a total of 176 seats: 16 flat-bed seats in United Polaris business class, 42 Economy Plus seats with extra legroom, and 118 standard Economy seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The success of this connection was made possible through the coordinated efforts of several key organizations. ANA Aeroportos de Portugal \u2013 VINCI Airports, Turismo de Portugal, and the Algarve Tourism Association all worked in tandem with United Airlines to realize this long-anticipated route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karen Stougo, Commercial Director of VINCI Airports in Portugal, emphasized the route\u2019s importance: \u201cThis new route not only strengthens the Algarve\u2019s international connectivity and supports the region\u2019s thriving tourism industry, but also offers residents a direct and convenient connection to the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The launch had initially been delayed due to an audit by the U.S. Federal Aviation Authority, but United confirmed that the route was never canceled\u2014only postponed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Faro\u2013Newark service is a key component of United Airlines\u2019 historic international expansion, which includes six new destinations and nine new routes across the Atlantic. Other new destinations served directly from the New York\/Newark hub include Bilbao (BIO), Palermo (PMO), Nuuk (GOH), and Funchal (FNC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, United has introduced new routes from its Washington D.C.\/Dulles (IAD) hub, such as the carrier\u2019s first-ever year-round service to Dakar (DSS), and seasonal flights to Nice (NCE) and Venice (VCE), along with a new seasonal service between Rome (FCO) and Denver (DEN).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to United, this expansion underscores the airline’s position as the largest global carrier based on available seat miles, serving more international destinations than any other U.S. airline. In summer 2025, United is set to offer 800 daily international flights across 140 destinations, including 32 routes not served by any other U.S. airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
