Ex Ryanair Pilot Arrested<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On May 7, 2025, garda\u00ed seized two large pallets of cannabis, valued at over \u20ac10 million, at the residence of Brendan O\u2019Meara in Meelick, Co Clare (ENN). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to The Irish Times<\/a><\/em>, O\u2019Meara, a 62-year-old former Ryanair (FR) pilot, was charged on May 10 during a special sitting of Ennis District Court. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He faces two counts: possession of cannabis for sale or supply under Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act and simple possession under Section 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sale or supply charge carries a potential life sentence upon conviction on indictment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judge Marie Keane, presiding over the case, described the drug quantity as \u201cenormous\u201d and noted the severity of the potential penalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite O\u2019Meara\u2019s entitlement to the presumption of innocence, the judge denied bail due to garda\u00ed objections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They argued O\u2019Meara posed a flight risk, citing his alleged international criminal connections and potential to flee Ireland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
