Both aircraft sustained visible damage, primarily to their wingtips, prompting the cancellation of both trans-Pacific flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collision occurred in an area where air traffic controllers do not directly communicate with flight crews, relying on ground crew coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No injuries were reported among the 202 passengers and 16 crew members on<strong> UA863<\/strong> and the 306 passengers and 16 crew members on <strong>UA877<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>United Airlines promptly deplaned passengers and began rebooking them on alternative flights.
