The flights will return to their intercontinental network after about 2 years.

Starting October 26, 2025, KLM will operate three weekly flights from Amsterdam Schiphol to the Caribbean gem of Barbados. The flights will be continuing through March 26, 2026. The flights will continue onwards to Georgetown, Guyana. KLM will operate a modern Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to fly the new routes, offering a comfortable and efficient travel experience across all classes.

This reintroduction marks a comeback for Bridgetown, which had previously seen service from KLM during the winter seasons of 2021 and 2022. During that period, KLM operated the flights using the Airbus A330 as part of its winter expansion.

However, in 2023, Barbados was removed from the airline’s schedule amid network restructuring due to the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. That suspension, although a setback, never seemed to be a permanent cut, and now, the Caribbean Island is back on the map.

Photo: By Jeroen Stroes Aviation Photography from Netherlands – PH–BHF, CC BY 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=75919601

KLM Re-Enters Caribbean Market

Barbados is considered one of the most underserved Caribbean destinations from the Netherlands, making it a prime choice for KLM’s winter offerings. Barbados has invested heavily in tourism promotion over recent years to draw more European attention. The island had ramped up campaigns, hosted events, and organized travel industry familiarization trips. While the 2023 suspension was a setback, the return of flights by KLM indicates a long-term belief in the potential of Barbados as a prime Caribbean destination.

KLM will be the only major Dutch carrier offering direct service to the island. KLM’s flights will play a critical role in connecting European travelers to Barbados without the need for time-consuming transfers.

Additionally, KLM has an integration with SkyTeam partners and boasts an expansive European feeder network. This means passengers across the continent will benefit from one-stop connectivity to the Caribbean.

KLM’s decision to bring back Bridgetown reflects not only growing passenger interest but also the airline’s evolving network post-COVID. By reintroducing select high-potential destinations like Barbados, KLM is rebuilding its long-haul network with a clear focus on seasonal relevance, market demand, and passenger convenience.

Stay tuned with us.
