GURUGRAM-<\/strong> Tata Group-owned Air India (AI)<\/a> CEO Campbell Wilson will step down as Chairman of Air India Express (IX). He will be replaced by Air India’s Chief Commercial Officer, Nipun Aggarwal, who already serves on the Air India Express board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aggarwal will continue his responsibilities as CCO of Air India while assuming the chairmanship of the budget carrier. This leadership transition comes as the airline group moves into its next phase of strategic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India CEO Steps Down<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The leadership change at Air India Express (IX)<\/a> represents a significant shift in the management structure of the Tata Group-owned airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Campbell Wilson, who has chaired Air India Express since June 2022, will vacate his seat on the airline’s board completely. This move appears to be part of a broader strategy to optimize the airline’s operations and management efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nipun Aggarwal, who will take over as Chairman while maintaining his CCO position at Air India, brings substantial commercial expertise to the role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His dual responsibilities suggest the airline group is working toward greater integration and alignment between its full-service and budget operations, potentially creating operational synergies across both carriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Operational Restructuring<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To further strengthen operations across the group, Air India’s Chief Operations Officer, Captain Basil Kwauk, will join the Air India Express board once regulatory approvals are secured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wilson confirmed he will remain responsible for the overall performance of the Air India Group while supporting Aggarwal and Kwauk in their expanded roles. He expressed continued interest in Air India Express’s progress and success, requesting colleagues join him in wishing the new leadership team success in their positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Captain Kwauk will replace Campbell Wilson<\/a> on the board, bringing operational expertise to the budget carrier’s leadership team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Wilson, the foundational restructuring of the airline group is now largely complete. The focus is shifting toward fully optimizing the group’s assets across multiple domains, including fleet management, network development, sales strategies, distribution channels, and loyalty programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The leadership changes come as Air India Group enters the next phase of its transformation, shifting focus from structural reorganization to commercial optimization across its operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
