Kennedy International Airport (JFK)<\/a>, New York, from <a href=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/index.php\/tag\/dubai-airport\/\">Dubai (DXB).<\/a> The aircraft touched down on <strong>Runway 31R<\/strong>, and the pilot got confused with the taxiway instructions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ATC instructed the flight crew to taxi via taxiway <strong>Victor-Uniform (VU)<\/strong> and then make a <strong>right turn onto taxiway Alpha<\/strong>. The aircraft could not safely proceed onto this taxiway due to these weight restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flight EK69 required a <strong>tow tug <\/strong>to help push the aircraft back to a position where it could safely taxi to its designated gate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This complicated manoeuvre added substantial time to the ground operation. On October 18, 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/index.php\/tag\/british-airways\/\">British Airways (BA)<\/a> <strong>flight 213<\/strong> from <a href=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/index.php\/tag\/london-heathrow\/\">London (LHR)<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/index.php\/tag\/boston-airport\/\">Boston (BOS)<\/a>, also operated by an A380, made a wrong turn while taxiing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite air traffic control instructions and a <strong>Notice to Airmen (NOTAM)<\/strong> indicating taxiway N was partially closed, the aircraft proceeded down taxiway N.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It crossed an unauthorised runway and encountered construction areas, forcing it to stop. The aircraft remained stationary for <strong>over 45 minutes <\/strong>until airport operations brought in a tug to reposition it. These runways must be strengthened to handle the aeroplane&#8217;s enormous <strong>weight of 1.2 million pounds.<\/strong> Taxiways must be at least 60 meters (197 feet) wide to fit the <strong>A380&#8217;s huge wingspan. <\/strong>Turns on taxiways need a special design so the aeroplanes&#8217; wheels stay on the pavement when turning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bigger Parking Areas<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Airports need larger parking spaces for the A380 with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Extra room for the plane to move around and park<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Special gates with two boarding bridges (one for each deck)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stronger pavement at gates to support the heavy aircraft<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Expanded Terminals<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>With the <strong>A380 able to carry over 800 passengers,<\/strong> airports need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Larger waiting areas for passengers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Boarding bridges for both the upper and lower decks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More immigration and customs counters to process the large number of arriving
