NEWARK-<\/strong> Chicago-based United Airlines (UA)<\/a> Flight 85 from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) to Newark (EWR) encountered a mid-air disruption on Monday, April 14, 2025, due to an unruly passenger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the incident, the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner<\/a>, registered as N17002<\/strong> landed safely at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) at approximately 3:30 p.m. local time.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United Unruly Passenger<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The flight had departed from Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) in Tel Aviv earlier that day. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has initiated an investigation into the onboard disturbance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not the first time, the United Newark-Tel Aviv route faced such disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United Airlines flight crew resorted to securing a disruptive passenger with cable ties during a September 2015 flight from Tel Aviv to New Jersey. The incident occurred when a man in his forties began behaving aggressively during the 11-hour journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flight attendants and an air marshal onboard United Flight 85 intervened when the passenger’s behavior threatened to disrupt the flight. The crew’s improvised restraint method proved effective, allowing the pilot to continue to the scheduled destination without requiring an emergency landing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plane arrived safely and on time at Newark Airport, where four police officers escorted the restrained passenger from the aircraft. A video uploaded to YouTube the following day captured crew members gathering around the passenger’s row, apparently in the process of restraining him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United Airlines confirmed the incident in a statement to MailOnline Travel: “United flight 85 from Tel Aviv to Newark arrived on schedule following a situation that occurred when a flight attendant attempted to help calm an agitated customer.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline emphasized that no crew members were injured during the incident, stating: “The flight attendant was not injured. Though law enforcement officials met the aircraft as a precaution, customers and crew members exited and departed normally.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
