We know there is one thing for sure about New York City&#8217;s helicopter tour companies: they have a deadly track record.&#8221;<\/p><cite>Chuck Schumer, Minority Leader, US Senate<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The helicopter operated under <strong>FAA&#8217;s &#8220;Part 91&#8221; regulations<\/strong>, which have less strict safety and training requirements compared to commercial flight rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The rules under Part 91 just aren&#8217;t strict enough when people&#8217;s lives are on the line,&#8221; The company previously filed for bankruptcy and faces multiple lawsuits over unpaid debts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schumer also called for increased FAA inspections for all tour operators, including <strong>FlyNYON<\/strong> \u2013 another company under scrutiny after a <strong>2018 East River crash<\/strong> that <strong>killed five people.<\/strong> A recent jury found FlyNYON responsible for that incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-industry-response\">Industry Response<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Industry advocates defended helicopter tour operations, with the Eastern Region Helicopter Council claiming New York sightseeing flights <strong>&#8220;already operate under the most stringent of regulations.&#8221; <\/strong>Critics counter that non-essential helicopter flights over densely populated areas like Manhattan create unnecessary safety risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite a 2016 city limit capping Manhattan heliport flights at 30,000 annually, many operators relocated to nearby New Jersey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>In the past two decades, five sightseeing helicopters have crashed into the Hudson or East River, resulting in 20 deaths.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Stay tuned with us.
