BANGALORE<\/strong>– Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru (BLR)<\/a> has reached a significant milestone, handling more than 41 million passengers during the 2024-25 financial year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This achievement represents an 11.6 percent year-on-year growth<\/strong> in overall passenger traffic. The airport simultaneously processed over 500,000 metric tonnes of cargo<\/strong>, demonstrating robust expansion across both passenger and freight operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The increase in connecting flights has significantly contributed to Bengaluru Airport’s (BLR) growing passenger numbers. The airport now serves as a crucial transfer point for travelers moving between domestic and international destinations. This hub-and-spoke model<\/strong> has enhanced the airport’s strategic importance in India’s aviation landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International shipments saw a substantial 21 percent growth,<\/strong> totaling 321,418 metric tons, while domestic freight operations experienced a more modest 4 percent increase,<\/strong> reaching 181,062 metric tons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International Travel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

International passenger numbers showed exceptional growth, increasing by 25 percent to reach 5.83 million travelers.<\/strong> This substantial rise stems from IndiGo’s (6E)<\/a> expanding global network and increased flight frequencies by international carriers, including Cathay Pacific (CX)<\/a>, KLM (KL)<\/a>, and Qantas (QF)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Domestic Traffic<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Domestic travel continued its upward trend with a 10 percent increase, bringing the total domestic passenger count to 36.05 million for the year.<\/strong> This growth reflects Bengaluru’s importance as a key domestic aviation hub serving central and southern India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Infrastructure Investments<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Cargo Operations<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Cargo handling at Bengaluru Airport (BLR) crossed the 500,000 metric tonne threshold for the first time, processing a total of 502,480 metric tonnes during FY 2024-25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This represents a 14 percent year-on-year increase. International cargo grew by 21 percent to reach 321,418 metric tons<\/strong>, while domestic cargo increased by 4 percent to 181,062 metric tons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Cargo Facilities<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The airport recently inaugurated a new domestic cargo terminal with an initial capacity of 345,000 tonnes, expandable to 400,000 tonnes. This facility complements the existing cargo infrastructure, which currently handles 210,000 metric tonnes across international and domestic shipments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bengaluru Airport (BLR) maintains its leadership in specific export categories, particularly mangoes and coriander. Additional cargo demand comes from sectors including ready-made garments, pharmaceuticals, <\/strong>and machinery parts.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
