DELHI-<\/strong> SpiceJet (SG)<\/a> and Air India Express (IX)<\/a> have received approval to operate regular flights to and from Nepal, according to the Himalayan nation’s civil aviation authority. This development increases the number of Indian carriers serving the Nepal-India route to 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, only Air India (AI)<\/a> and IndiGo (6E) <\/a>conduct flights between Nepal and India. The addition of SpiceJet (SG) and Air India Express (IX) will double the number of Indian airlines serving this route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India Express, SpiceJet to Kathmandu<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

SpiceJet (SG), which operated regular flights to Nepal before the COVID-19 pandemic<\/strong>, will resume service with daily flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline previously mainly connected Delhi (DEL)<\/a> to Kathmandu (KTM)<\/a> before its operations were suspended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India Express (IX), making its first entry into the Nepalese market,<\/strong> has received approval for 2 flights per day <\/strong>to Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other Asian Airlines Serving Kathmandu<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Several Asian airlines maintain regular service to and from Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nepal Airlines (RA)<\/a>, the national flag carrier, connects Kathmandu (KTM) to various Asian destinations, including Delhi (DEL), Mumbai (BOM)<\/a>, Bangalore (BLR)<\/a>, Bangkok (BKK)<\/a>, Hong Kong (HKG)<\/a> and Kuala Lumpur (KUL). Thai Airways (TG)<\/a> offers regular flights between Bangkok (BKK) and Kathmandu (KTM), providing connections to its extensive network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Singapore Airlines (SQ)<\/a> flies between Singapore (SIN) <\/a>and Kathmandu (KTM), offering a gateway to Southeast Asia and beyond. Malaysian Airlines (MH)<\/a> connects Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Kathmandu (KTM) with regular service. Dragon Air (Cathay Dragon) (KA) provides flights between Hong Kong (HKG) and Kathmandu (KTM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air China (CA)<\/a> and China Southern (CZ)<\/a> both operate routes connecting Kathmandu (KTM) with major Chinese cities. Bhutan Airlines (B3) <\/strong>and Drukair (KB)<\/strong> offer services between Bhutan (PBH) and Nepal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airport Improvements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Maintenance work on the taxiway at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM), which previously caused flight suspensions, now continues without disrupting flight operations. This improvement began on April 1.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airport has also extended its operating hours. Since Tuesday, TIA has been functioning for 18 hours daily, from 6 am to midnight.<\/strong> This marks an improvement from the restricted 14-hour schedule that had been in place since October to accommodate maintenance work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These developments signal growing air connectivity between Nepal and India, as well as improvements to Nepal’s primary international gateway, benefiting both tourism and business travel in the region.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
