SHIMLA-<\/strong> The pilot of Alliance Air (9I)<\/a> flight applied emergency brakes during landing after experiencing a technical malfunction. A potential disaster was averted on Monday (March 24, 2025), at Shimla’s Jubbarhatti Airport (SLV).<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pilot activated emergency braking procedures when the aircraft failed to decelerate properly during its approach. The aircraft carried 44 passengers, including Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri <\/strong>and Director General of Police Atul Verma. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alliance Air Shimla Incident<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Delhi (DEL)<\/a>–Shimla (SLV)<\/strong>–Dharamsala (DHM) <\/strong>shuttle flight successfully landed but subsequently canceled its onward journey to Dharamsala (DHM) as a safety precaution. Alliance Air (9I) has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We reached Shimla via flight this morning. There was some issue with its landing. The plane didn’t touch down where it should have. It couldn’t stop and reached the very edge of the runway.”<\/p>Mukesh Agnihotri, Deputy Chief Minister, Himachal Pradesh<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Agnihotri noted that the aircraft made a sharp turn at the runway’s end before coming to a complete stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers remained inside the aircraft for an additional 20-25 minutes following the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alliance Air Past Incidents<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An Alliance Air (9I) flight encountered a significant bird strike<\/strong> during takeoff from Rajkot Airport (HSR)<\/a> in July 2016. Despite engine damage, the pilots managed to abort the takeoff safely. The incident highlighted wildlife management challenges at regional airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March 2018, an Alliance Air (9I) flight performing a domestic route experienced a hard landing<\/strong> at Shirdi Airport (SAG) in Maharashtra. The impact damaged the aircraft’s landing gear, but quick action by the flight crew prevented injuries among the 50 passengers on board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alliance Air (9I) faced another critical situation in September 2019 when one of its ATR aircraft suffered an engine failure<\/strong> shortly after takeoff from Delhi (DEL). The pilot successfully executed an emergency landing, with all 59 passengers and crew evacuated safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August 2022, an Alliance Air ATR 72-600<\/a> aircraft experienced a runway excursion<\/strong> at Calicut International Airport (CCJ) during heavy rainfall. All 66 passengers and crew escaped without injuries, but the incident prompted an investigation into wet runway operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
