In a statement released on March 23, the airline confirmed its Foreign Carriers Permit remains valid and has not been revoked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline assured passengers that preparations continue for the <strong>inaugural flight to London Gatwick (LGW) scheduled for May 18<\/strong>. This was following intervention by British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who cited <strong>human rights concerns in Uganda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to these allegations, Lammy stated Britain &#8220;will not allow the skies of the UK to become a welcome mat for regimes that brutalize their people.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspension reportedly followed a tense meeting between Lammy and Uganda&#8217;s ambassador at the UK Foreign Office. Critics point to President Museveni&#8217;s nearly 40-year rule, with family members in key positions, as evidence of democratic failings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The British government was reviewing sanctions against Ugandan officials. This was in the hope to establish direct air links between Uganda and the UK <strong>after nearly a decade.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jenifer Bamuturaki, CEO of Uganda Airlines, called the development a breakthrough moment following years of planning and overcoming challenges, including delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>&#8220;This route marks the end of our establishment phase and sets us on the course for long-term growth. The <strong>Gatwick service will operate four times weekly<\/strong>, increasing Uganda Airlines&#8217; weekly departures from Entebbe (EBB) to 81 and reinforcing its position as the largest operator at the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline expects the <a href=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/index.php\/tag\/airbus-a330-800neo\/\">Airbus A330-800neo&#8217;s<\/a> cargo capacity to support growing Ugandan exports to the UK, which were valued at $22.6 million in 2024.
