continues to face financial struggles. The airline exited Chapter 11 bankruptcy on March 12, having significantly restructured its debt.

The restructuring followed Spirit’s decision to reject a merger with Frontier Airlines (F9), opting instead for a creditor-backed plan.

However, the airline reported a net loss of $1.2 billion in 2024, with an 8% revenue decline to $4.9 billion.

Seat capacity has also been reduced, with the airline operating 17% fewer seats in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the previous year.

Additional cuts of 16% are expected in the second quarter, including the cancellation of 12 domestic routes by the end of March.

Photo: Spirit Airlines

Impact of Engine Inspections on Operations

A significant challenge for Spirit Airlines (NK) is the ongoing Pratt & Whitney engine inspections on its Airbus A320neo fleet.

These inspections, required for safety and performance reasons, can take up to a year to complete, forcing Spirit to park multiple aircraft. This has contributed to the airline’s capacity reductions and financial strain.

Despite these operational challenges, Spirit remains focused on providing low-cost travel options and expanding its reach within the US and beyond.

Stay tuned with us.
