FORT WORTH-<\/strong> A Miami-bound American Airlines (AA) <\/a>subsidiary American Eagle flight returned to Savannah, Georgia, Monday (March 10, 2025) evening after a passenger attacked flight attendants and damaged aircraft equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delange Augustin, 31, now faces federal charges of interference with flight crew members following the incident on flight AA4162<\/strong>, operated by Envoy. The flight carried approximately eight passengers and five crew members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines Passenger Attack Attendants<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to court documents, the disturbance began within one minute of takeoff when Augustin exhibited signs of what crew initially believed was a medical emergency<\/a>. Witnesses reported observing “stomping, incoherent yelling and shaking.” When approached by a flight attendant, Augustin allegedly turned in his seat, raised his legs and kicked the crew member in the chest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pilots made the decision to return to Savannah after receiving reports of the disruption from the cabin. During the return flight, Augustin allegedly assaulted the passenger seat in front of him, repeatedly kicking it until the occupant relocated and the seat eventually collapsed from the damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although Augustin briefly calmed down, the situation escalated again after landing. Despite instructions for all passengers to remain seated during taxiing, Augustin moved toward the front of the aircraft while holding onto his sister, Medjina Augustin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon reaching the galley area, he allegedly threw multiple punches described as “haymakers,” striking a flight attendant in the upper arm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three passengers intervened, restraining both Augustin and his sister until airport police arrived to take control of the situation. Court filings indicate that Medjina Augustin attempted to justify her brother’s behavior, stating, “He hurts evil.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FBI Investigates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The FBI investigation into Monday’s American Eagle flight disturbance has revealed religious motivations behind Delange Augustin’s actions. His sister, Medjina Augustin, told investigators they were traveling to Haiti “to flee religious attacks of a spiritual nature.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medjina explained to FBI agents that “evil comes out in the darkness,” and she “had never experienced as much darkness as was on the plane that evening.” Court documents state she expressed no surprise that her brother “had hurt anyone because he hurts evil.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the affidavit, Medjina recalled her brother instructing her to close her eyes during the flight “because Satan’s disciple(s) had followed them onto the plane and the legion did not want the Augustins to make it to Haiti.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigators documented that Delange Augustin swallowed rosary beads during the incident. He subsequently received medical evaluation at a hospital before transfer to the Chatham County Detention Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medjina claimed her brother consumed the beads “because they are a weapon of strength in the spiritual warfare,” and insisted he “was not suffering from any medical or mental health issue or impairment.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines addressed the incident in a statement, saying: “Safety and security are our top priorities. We appreciate the professionalism of the entire crew and thank our passengers for their understanding.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
