The airline’s decision reflects a response to what Berlowitz describes as a public need for respite following eighteen months of conflict.

The airline’s February launch of direct Tel Aviv-New York flights marked its inaugural entry into the United States market. This route expansion carries particular significance as it challenges El Al’s traditional dominance on the New York corridor, especially notable given the absence of U.S. carriers from Israeli airspace due to security considerations during the ongoing conflict.

Arkia’s network expansion extends beyond transatlantic services. March brings the introduction of new European routes, connecting Tel Aviv with destinations in Greece, Hungary, Albania, and Spain’s capital, Madrid. These additions will elevate Arkia’s network to encompass 30 destinations.

The aviation landscape in Israel has experienced significant disruption since October 7, 2023, with foreign carriers frequently adjusting their operations in response to regional security developments.

Recent ceasefire agreements, both with Hamas and Lebanon’s Hezbollah, have created conditions supporting the gradual return of international carriers to Israeli skies. Several U.S. airlines have subsequently announced plans to reinstate partial services to Israel.

Stay tuned with us.
